As we look toward the future of Nigerian real estate, how do we build structures that feel globally competitive but deeply rooted in our identity?

Design is deeper than aesthetics, it’s an archive of our culture. Let’s talk about shifting the baseline standard for new builds and creating spaces that truly reflect who we are.

…TBH you’ll likely find me on site on most days. My team and I have spent the past few months working hard to bring this particular project to life.

We’re finally wrapping things up and honestly? It’s been fulfilling🥹

Today, among other things, I’m taking some time to personally set up all the beds, starting with this one in the primary bedroom

Consider this a little behind-the-scenes look into the process and you should definitely follow our work page @hellospaced to see the full designs come together!

IDK should I share more BTS from our site days?

We often get stuck waiting for the perfect time, a clear path or external support and validation before we finally decide to move.

I’ve come to realize that refusing or hesitating to choose is still a choice…it’s just a passive one and most times the outcome is never what you truly wanted.

So DO that thing, be seen trying, be seen failing, believe in the power of slow progress, ultimately make that choice and believe in the power of choice.

This is Design backyard’s Lagos Journals: Series Finale 🎀

Check out Entry 001-004 in my previous videos and see you soon!🥹

Your mind is such a powerful tool and if you don’t actively choose to ground it, the noise around you will easily take over.

For me, learning to ground my mind was a survival mechanism. Afterall, being the only woman on loud construction sites, managing Nigerian artisans and navigating language barriers, can make it so easy to retreat into your head out of overwhelm.

I had to learn how to catch myself, drop out of my head and step onto the site with presence and self-trust.

When you are building from scratch, you’ll quickly realize that growth can only happen when you develop a strong internal grounding of your own mind.

…Which eventually led me to a final realization...

A personal shift was needed to make a choice that made absolutely no sense on the outside. That shift meant learning to outgrow the need for external validation and shifting to having an abundant mindset and internal confidence.

There’s something about building from scratch that forces you to outgrow any lack mindset. I used to think every open door was meant to walk through, but sometimes you have to develop enough self-trust to decline even when it feels terrifying to turn down certain opportunities.

If you’re on your journey of building something sustainable, structure isn’t something that’s given to you. It’s something you create, test, break, refine and define repeatedly as you grow.

Having that deep personal shift was a turning point in my journey. However, physically and mentally standing my ground in environments built to be so rough and fast-paced was a completely different chapter…

Stay tuned for Entry 004🎀

Surviving the outside world wasn’t the hardest part. The real battle was what was happening internally.

I used to think that launching a business from scratch was purely about establishing external structures, systems and execution only. However, the deeper I got, the more I realized that a completely different level of internal awareness is required from your mindset.

The truth is, the person you have to become is harder to build than the actual business itself especially when building with integrity. Growth isn’t always about adding more to who you are it is also about stripping away everything that wasn’t actually true to you to begin with.

… but this was just the first phase. As I continued my journey, the next hurdle arrived and the choice it required made absolutely no sense on the outside.

See you soon at Entry 003🎀
