None of the EV scooters at your home were made in India.

India imports 190 million tonnes of crude oil and produces only about 30 million. So the government pushed EVs. Two-wheeler EV sales went from 60 billion in FY2020 to 1,050 billion in FY2025.

But the electronics and motors inside them? Almost all imported. Then China restricted rare-earth magnets in April 2025, and the whole supply chain felt it.

The gap isn't the EV. It's what's inside it: power electronics, motors, magnets. Vimag Labs is already building magnet-free motors here and has exported its first batch.

Don't build the EV. Build what's inside it.

92 in every 100 small businesses in Tamil Nadu have one owner.

That's 48.5 lakh businesses, about 90 lakh people working in them, and 8.20% of India's output from businesses like these. Only 0.6% are partnerships. The rest of the 8 are trusts, cooperatives and other forms.

One owner usually means one person holds the money, the decisions and the know-how. Only 85 in 1,000 of these businesses use a computer. So the next person who joins can bring the skill that's missing: accounts, selling online, billing software, CAD or machine upkeep.

Upgrading the family business is a startup too.

Send this to a friend whose family runs a shop or a small unit.

This photo of the ISS was taken from space by an Indian private satellite. 🛰️

Hyderabad's Azista built the AFR satellite with Berlin Space Technologies, and it launched on SpaceX's Falcon 9 on 13 June 2023. They started out as a parts supplier, and now they're photographing the ISS from orbit.

Satellites aren't only for IIT or ISRO. Making a part from a 2D drawing is the first step.

Follow @designandsubash for more Indian hardware stories.

4 out of every 10 women working in India's registered factories are in one state: Tamil Nadu.

That's more than Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra put together.

It didn't happen by accident. Safe hostels near work, free bus travel and night shifts allowed since 2017 came along with it. At one phone factory near Chennai, 6 out of every 7 workers are women.

But zoom out and the gap is clear. In Vietnam, 7 out of 10 women are in the workforce. In India, it's 3.

The next step is skills. Today India adds only 15–20% of a phone's value. PCB assembly, testing, machine maintenance, then PCB design and firmware. That's where the better-paying factory jobs are moving.

Know someone working in a factory? Send this to them. It's their story.

India already has a dark factory. Since 2018. 🏭

Oragadam, Tamil Nadu: a semiconductor dark factory with 25 robots and around 100 employees. And now Antropi Robotics, a YC-backed startup from Bengaluru, is building an autonomous CNC machining unit. Their first order went to a US hardware startup, and the founder flew there to deliver it himself.

This is where Indian manufacturing, robotics and automation are heading.

Next time you’re on a factory floor, notice where the machines wait. Save this, and send it to a friend who wants to start up.

He shines like a star, steady and far, lighting a path I'm still learning to walk.

I look up and wonder if I'll ever burn that bright, or if I'll drift like a cloud on a summer wind, here for a season, then gone.

But maybe that's the quiet answer. Stars don't try to be stars.

They just keep burning through the dark. So I'll keep going, carrying his light, and let the sky decide what I become.

I thought my reading problem was a lack of discipline. But Self-Determination Theory helped me see it differently.

Reading becomes difficult when you lack autonomy, competence, or relatedness. For me, unfamiliar historical context and difficult English words made books harder to continue.

So I built an app to help but the first version revealed another problem: memorizing a word isn’t the same as understanding how to use it.
Now I’m adding practice sessions and improving the design as I use it.

If you also struggle to finish books, follow this journey. I’m building the solution in public. by @designandsubash

CM @actorvijay clearly said, "Ooran veetu neiyil unga veetuku sweet seiyadhinga" (Don't make sweets for your house using someone else's ghee). But are his own TVK cadres listening? 🤷‍♂️

We all pay heavy taxes Central GST, State GST, and indirect taxes to build public infrastructure. So who gave anyone the right to drill holes into public tar roads just to plant party flags?

Saying "other parties do it too" is not a valid excuse for a party that promises change. Let's stop normalizing the destruction of public property for political publicity. We need to hold everyone accountable!

What do you guys think about this? Is this the right way to welcome a leader? Let me know your thoughts in the comments! 👇 by @designandsubash

I suck at focusing.

So I started reading about why motivation works the way it does.

Then I found Self-Determination Theory.

Apparently, motivation gets easier when you feel:

• in control
• capable
• like what you’re doing actually matters

Which made me question basically every productivity system I was using.

Then I questioned my life choices.

Then I built an app.

Because apparently that was easier than just focusing. by @designandsubash
