Three stars. Every plate starts with people. The tasting menu gets written about. The kitchen does the work. Hands, heat, repetition. Tasting something again because almost right isn’t right.

At @azurmendi_atxa, Eneko Atxa takes that care beyond the plate. Conscious gastronomy means thinking about where ingredients come from, the landscape that sustains them and what you leave behind. Basque roots. Responsibility that reaches from the kitchen to the architecture.

I came for the food. This is the frame I brought home.

Villa Savoye by Le Corbusier. Some buildings age. Some refuse to.

📍82 Rue de Villiers, 78300 Poissy, France

Completed in 1931 in Poissy, just outside Paris, Villa Savoye is one of the most influential examples of modernist architecture and the International Style.

Designed by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret, the house became a manifesto for a new way of living. Raised on pilotis, with horizontal ribbon windows, an open floor plan, a free façade and a rooftop garden, Villa Savoye brought Le Corbusier’s Five Points of Architecture to life.

At the time, it was radical. Nearly a century later, the unsettling part is how contemporary it still feels.

Walk through it, and you realize how much of what we now call modern architecture started here.

📍8282 Melrose Avenue

A new café is about to land in WeHo, and it’s worth your time.

KAFE (001) is the first of three planned locations from Coffee Inc. They call it a “brew & collab” concept. The premise is simple. Every café reflects the neighborhood it calls home. Same philosophy. Different personality.

The space has the futuristic metallic energy of Paris’s Café Nuances in the 4th arrondissement. Clean lines. An organic padded counter. Brushed metal. Sharp details. Nothing feels unnecessary. The merch is excellent too.

The menu starts with the familiar and gradually nudges you toward something unexpected.

Order the Signature Blacktop over ice. Espresso with whole milk, cinnamon, cardamom, date syrup, Greek yogurt, and charcoal. It sounds like a bad idea. It isn’t.

The owners were generous with their time. The crowd was local, relaxed, and knew exactly why they were there. The coffee earned the trip.

Go for the coffee. Stay awhile. Then grab a photo at the pink wall before you leave.

📍Guggenheim Museum Bilbao

Some buildings house culture.

Others become culture.

When Frank Gehry’s Guggenheim opened in 1997, it transformed Bilbao from an industrial city into a global design destination. Its titanium curves still feel futuristic nearly three decades later.

Walk around it once, and you’ll understand why architects, artists, and curious travelers continue making the pilgrimage.

Few buildings changed a city.

This one changed the conversation.

📍Mish Deli, Los Angeles

BEST PASTRAMI IN LA.

I don’t say that lightly.

Los Angeles takes its pastrami seriously. There are institutions, legends, and lifelong loyalties attached to the subject.

Then I ate lunch at Mish.

I ordered the half sandwich on toasted challah with hardwood-smoked pastrami. What arrived was one of the most impressive sandwiches I’ve had in years.

The pastrami was the star. Thick slices wrapped in black pepper, smoke, and spice. Rich without being heavy. Tender enough to fall apart the moment you picked it up. Every bite delivered a deep concentration of flavor that lingered long after the sandwich was gone.

The toasted challah was equally good. Crisp at the edges, soft in the center, with just enough sweetness to balance the smoke and pepper. The deviled egg salad with smoked paprika, za’atar, scallion, and mustard was excellent. A Lemon Cream Top Lemonade cut through the richness perfectly.

What stayed with me, though, wasn’t just the food.

Chef Eric Greenspan stopped by my table to ask how everything was. No performance. No celebrity routine. Just genuine hospitality.

Mish gets that. The food is exceptional. The hospitality is sincere.

Best pastrami in Los Angeles.

Mish. End of discussion.

The best cafés offer more than coffee. They give you a reason to stay.

Created by Mouthwash Studio, with interiors by Aunt Studio, Café Tondo feels like the kind of place Los Angeles needs more of. Unpretentious. Well designed. Full of life.

By day, it’s coffee and conversation. By night, beer, cocktails, and a patio filled with artists, neighbors, night owls, and people who have nowhere else they need to be.

Grab a stool outside and settle in. The people watching is elite. Chinatown unfolds around you in real time. Strangers become familiar faces. One drink turns into two. A quick stop becomes the rest of your evening.

The details matter here. The warmth of the materials. The restraint of the interiors. The feeling that someone cared enough to create a space worth lingering in.

In a city obsessed with getting somewhere, Café Tondo makes a compelling case for staying put.

Ofr in the Marais is one of those rare places where taste still feels human. Art books, obscure magazines, photography, fashion, cinema, ideas. During Paris Fashion Week, the tiny bookstore fills with designers, editors, students, and wanderers all chasing inspiration. Open Free and Ready. The name says everything.
