MEET REESE—the CFO in training. 💼📊

Reese doesn’t just show up—he reports for business. Suit on. iPad in hand. Numbers accounted for. And if the other boys take too many breaks, trust us…Reese is going to let them know! 😂

Throughout our pop-up, Reese tracked what was coming in and going out, engaged with customers, supported the team and stayed locked in on every sale. He would not let that iPad go—and honestly, we didn’t want him to!

This is what The Detroit Boys entrepreneurship programming is all about. Our boys aren’t only learning business from a workbook—they’re gaining hands-on experience in sales, customer service, financial literacy, inventory management, teamwork and leadership.

Reese understands something early: looking the part matters, knowing your numbers matters and holding your team accountable matters.

The future of Detroit business is already in the building. 🧡

Supported by the Southeast Michigan With Youth For Youth (SEMI WYFY) initiative, funded by the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation and administered by the Community Foundation of St. Clair County, with the Michigan Afterschool Partnership supporting youth engagement and partnership.

Yesterday was 🔥!

Supporters from across Michigan pulled up to Hot Sam’s and made sure our boys sold out of their merchandise! More importantly, our young entrepreneurs received a full day of hands-on experience in sales, customer service, marketing, inventory management and money management.

This is what it looks like when a community invests in its young people. Every purchase, encouraging word and shared post helped show our boys that their ideas, hard work and futures matter.

A huge thank-you to @hotsamsdetroit , @planted.detroit , @firstmerchants and everyone who came out to support our boys. You helped make this experience unforgettable!

WHEN DETROIT GETS HIT, DETROIT SHOWS UP. ❤️‍🩹🏙️

Following last week’s tornado that hit District 5 hard, District Managers @designedbyablackman and @bonniefrrll went door to door checking on residents, listening to their needs, and making sure they knew the City was there to help.

And they weren’t alone.

City departments including @detroitcdd313 , @detroitgsd , and BSEED were on the ground working alongside our district team to assess damage, connect residents to resources, and help neighborhoods begin the road to recovery.

We’re also grateful for our incredible community partners and volunteers—including @genesishope1 and Bailey Park—who stepped up to clean up, lend a helping hand, and support their fellow Detroiters as they work to get back to a sense of normalcy. 🤝🏾

In moments like this, we’re reminded that the strength of Detroit isn’t just in our buildings or our neighborhoods—it’s in our people.

We show up. We lift each other up. And together, we Rise Higher. ⬆️❤️

Yesterday, public servants came together in District 5 to make sure one of our hardest-hit neighborhoods, Islandview, knew they were seen, heard, supported, and loved on.

We made sure residents had immediate necessities like lunch, water, information, and most importantly people standing beside them.

This was not a moment to grandstand. It was a moment that reminded us that showing up matters. Presence matters. People matter.

I want to give a special thank you to @mayormarysheffield @cwrenatamiller @abdulelsayed @donavanmckinney @johnconyers @kimberlyefisher @bonniefrrll @kzrcurrent23 @tatjana.jackson @degcallbusiness @detroitgsd @dsharp_shots_ and everyone who answered the call and showed up for our residents.

District 5, and Detroit we stand with you. We’re going to keep showing up, keep listening, and keep working alongside you as recovery continues.

This is what community looks like. This is how we Rise Higher.

Yesterday was a difficult day for Detroit, and especially for many of our families here in District 5.

Seeing the damage left behind by the tornado is heartbreaking. I know many residents are dealing with damaged homes, fallen trees, power outages, flooding, and the uncertainty that comes after a storm like this.

To every resident impacted: we see you, we are standing with you, and you are not alone.

District 5 is more than a collection of neighborhoods—we are a community. In moments like this, we check on our neighbors, we lend a hand, and we make sure people know where to turn for help.

My team and I will continue to be present throughout District 5, working alongside residents, City departments, first responders, utility crews, block clubs, and community partners as recovery efforts continue.
