For @split_level_fair, I curated the work of two artists together in a residential-feeling space to suggest a layered, personal collection that has grown over time. I love how objects bring out new meanings and qualities when seen together. There’s something so joyful about discovering new ways of seeing familiar pieces as new works enter a home.

Thank you @brentowens and @mmerde___ for the opportunity to share just how engaging it can be to live with uplifting, conceptual, and whimsical objects.

🍍Thrilled to be curating a two‑person presentation for @split_level_fair this October featuring sculptures by Brent Owens & paintings by Meredith Sellers in dialogue. @brentowens @mmerde___

OCT 1–3 / 2026
RIMADESIO New York, 102 Madison Ave

New York–based art consultant ALEX STOLLER brings together works by BRENT OWENS and MEREDITH SELLERS as examples of artists exploring humanism in an age of automation. Through material intervention, purposeful visual omissions, and process‑driven composition, their works invite deeper exploration when experienced side by side.

As automated systems streamline how images move through visual culture and flatten complexity, Sellers and Owens reaffirm the essential role of human‑made art in protecting ambiguity and individual interpretation.

BRENT OWENS
Owens’s carved forms embrace deliberate clunkiness and intuitive mark‑making. He pushes back against streamlined, machine production, creating objects that provoke visceral reactions and introduce sly humor. His practice explores Anthropocene Blues — confronting humanity’s awkward relationship to the natural world and the role we inevitably play in shaping it.

MEREDITH SELLERS
Sellers’ paintings ask us to look through compositions that combine architectural and digital windows, revealing how screens crop, flatten, and shape perception while still offering glimpses into other worlds. With striking photorealism, she draws from familiar images in art history and contemporary media, reframing them around themes of time, mortality, and consumption.

SABINE MARCELIS. Salon 94 is presenting her latest ethereal exploration of light and space. The Lune sconces are individually named after the 12 phases of the moon. With adjustable light temperatures, each piece shifts between warm and cool tones, revealing how our perception of color changes with the light. The sconces are reflected in Orb Mirror, which tricks the eye into seeing a three-dimensional sphere when it’s actually completely flat. Recommend seeing in person. 🫶

I love how Marcelis’s work exists at the intersection of art and design. Every cast resin gradient is carefully considered, using material and light to capture something as fleeting and intangible as the passage of time:

“The best colors occur when you are above the clouds. At sunset, when the clouds and the sun mix… how do you harness this ephemeral moment in a permanent object? That’s the question I always ask myself.” — Sabine Marcelis

Now vs then, equally unexpected. 🏸Claes Oldenburg began making soft sculpture in the early 1960s as part of the oversized props he used in transient LES happenings.

In 1976, he began a thirty-year creative partnership with the art historian and curator Coosje van Bruggen, with whom he collaborated on more than forty large-scale projects.

The second image shows Soft Shuttlecock in its original location, designed for the Frank Lloyd Wright rotunda of the Guggenheim in conjunction with Oldenburg’s 1995 retrospective.

Referencing badminton shuttlecocks handmade with real feathers, Oldenburg and van Bruggen’s whimsical object is humorously deflated. They wanted to underscore the museum’s institutional role as a site not only of culture and education, but also of play.

Reinstalled in the current Pop Art collection show, the reinstallation took me by surprise, as if I had witnessed a crash landing or a game-ending point.

An enchanting day in Abiquiú, raising a martini glass of Coors to Georgia O’Keeffe. One stop on an unforgettable art pilgrimage to Santa Fe with Davidson’s Art Collection Advisory Committee. Such a thoughtfully planned trip - feeling grateful for the time away to learn more about regional art, indigenous history, and have so many incredible meals. 🍸#ArtUrgesVoyages #DavidsonAlumni #GeorgiaOKeeffe by @designhunger
