How do I even begin on sharing my experience at He Sapa Wacipi?
I was so happy to return home to my friends and relatives! I saw so many people!
I had late nights and early mornings — I live-streamed the parade and had a lot of fun there too!
I did a lot this past week, so I was pretty burnt out by the time the pow wow started, but as soon as I started feeling the music and watching all the amazing dancing, I was so incredibly proud and excited, and I even teared up. 🥲 All these amazing singers and dancers came to our home— the heart of everything that is! That’s what the Black Hills is!❤️
I thank the pow wow committee for welcoming me home with good words and kind gestures, checking in with me, sharing some food with me, allowing me to decompress at times.❤️‍🩹
I want to thank Malissa’s frybread for feeding me and Young Spirit some yummy menudo and bread! Singers sometimes can’t leave the drum so it’s hard for them to leave to stand in long lines to get food.🥹
I had an amazing time singing, dancing, and visiting this past weekend. I just now had time to reflect, and I know that my perspective of the pow wow was that it was a homecoming for me. I miss my Unci, as she used to come to the pow wow. I am just navigating life through the changes, but what I know for certain is that I try my best to make sure I acknowledge all my relatives, even if it’s a short interaction. We never know how long we have on this earth. ❤️‍🩹
