I retired in early 2026 and plan on travelling and exploring this wonderful world as a Gallivanting Granny for as long as possible.

I went on a food tour in Bucharest today. It was a fabulous experience. The guide was good and the 6 others on the tour were wonderful. A young man from Quebec, Canada and 5 women on a long weekend holiday from Yorkshire. The company helped make it fabulous. We stopped at 2 places that we would never have found, a hole in the wall bakery for a pretzel and then this lovely colourful restaurant called, Terasa Florilor. We had a platter of 4 local dips, tomatoes, olives and cheese with bread, a shot glass of a local spirit, Bran Tuica prune and a choice of wine or beer. It was a great stop. We then walked to catch a tram and visited Obor Market. There we again had a choice of beer or wine and we tasted some smoked cheese and bear salami. Apparently in Romania they hunt a certain number of brown bear each year for food and to manage the population of bear. I tried the salami and it was okay. It wasn't as spiced or garlicky as I thought it would be. We also tried Mici (pronounce meecee) with a bread roll and mustard. We had free time to look around for 20 minutes. The market is huge with lots of different produce, clothing and homeware stalls. We finished our food tour with a flat doughnut dusted with icing sugar. We were all very full. I brought my mici, some bear salami and bread rolls back to my hotel to have for dinner as there was too much food for me. After leaving the tour, I walked through Old Town and visited Carteuresti Carusel (I am missing the correct symbols on the letters). It is famous as the largest bookshop in Bucharest. It has 4 levels of books, metal spiral staircases and a cafe on the top level. I enjoyed a cup of earl grey tea while people watching. It started to rain and hail on my walk back to the hotel so I took shelter with some other people under a large umbrella until it eased off. I am having a quiet evening back in the hotel with dinner from the food tour when and if I get hungry later. A great first full day in Romania. #food #Bucharest #gallivantinggranny #Romania by @desireewheare

I have arrived in Bucharest, Romania. It was lovely being picked up at the airport and chauffeured to my hotel in a Mercedes. I have a food tour booked for tomorrow but they mixed up the day as I just got a call asking where I was. I am going to get some food and have a quiet night before I start exploring tomorrow morning. #gallivantinggranny #bucharest #viewfrommywindow by @desireewheare

Well I have arrived safely in Frankfurt. I have managed to navigate my way through biometrics, passport control, security screening and to my correct onwards flight gate to Bucharest in about 30 minutes. Pretty amazing I think. 😆 by @desireewheare

Singapore airport (Changi) has 4 different options for free transit tours to choose from. The one that fitted my flight times was to Sentosa Island. At just over 2.5 hours it is a taster. Sentosa Island certainly has multiple things to do and a multitude of hotels. We saw the entrance to Universal Studios, walked the sensory trail and ended up watching a laser light and fireworks show(had to pay for that) before being taken back to the airport. It certainly is a great way to see a little of Singapore on a tight time frame. by @desireewheare

Well, I am starting a new adventure today. 2 months away in Europe. It's a little daunting being away by myself for that long. My trip comprises x3 separate tours and days that I have planned myself. The 3 tours are, a European river cruise, a Hurtigruten cruise along the coast of Norway and then a Christmas markets tour of Germany and Austria. I have around 36 hours of travel ahead of me and 3 flights, Singapore, Frankfurt and finally Bucharest, Romania. #gallivantinggranny by @desireewheare

On 28th August, my tour flew from Derby, Western Australia to Horizontal Falls for an overnight stay. The views flying in on 28th and out on the 29th were spectacular. Seeing sharks being fed only a couple of centimetres through a mesh cage was amazing. Going through Horizontal Falls in the boats was so much fun, scary and enthralling at the same time. The power of the water pouring between the rock walls was phenomenal. The boat captain held the boat steady against the rushing water for a few minutes. Amazing. I definitely recommend going to visit. I had done a scenic flight over Horizontal Falls previously but being on the water was just such a great experience. #horizontalfalls #westernaustralia #sharks #Australia #gallivantinggranny by @desireewheare

26th August my Kimberley tour group visited Galvans Gorge. A beautiful swimming area with a waterfall going into it. It was lovely and refreshing. It has a very slippery rocky base so water shoes are helpful. The next day 27th, the tour continued on and we visited Bells Gorge. Another beating walk to the swimming area. This time the waterfall was on the exit of the swimming area. Another stunning place. #kimberleys #westernaustralia #swimminghole #gorge #gallivantinggranny by @desireewheare

25th August. Our tour left El Questro station pausing at Zebedee Springs, a thermal spring that was beautiful. We stopped for lunch at Ellenbrae Station which was like finding an oasis on the Gibb River Road. Lovely lunch, beautiful managers and lush gardens. Our final stop for the day was at Mount Barnett Station and we camped near the Manning River. Such a beautiful place with a beautiful swimming area and sandy beach. I totally recommend all places to visit. #westernaustralia #gibbriverroad #manningriver #australia #gallivantinggranny by @desireewheare

24th August my tour left Kununurra and drove to Emma Gorge. Emma Gorge is a grade 4 walk if not a grade 5. The scenery is stunning but there certainly are lots of rocks to scramble over. It's numbered from 1 to 12 to help with knowing how far you are along it's length. I stopped at 10 as I could see others having to clamber up a hill over rocks and decided that the pool at number 10 was beautiful. I sat and put my feet into the water. So refreshing before walking back. #gibbriverroad #emmagorge #kimberleys #westernaustralia #gallivantinggranny by @desireewheare

Late post. On 22nd August my tour drove from the Bungle Bungles to Kununurra and Lake Argyle. It's a beautiful huge dam in Western Australia's Kimberley region. The cruise on the lake was beautiful and watching the sunset was glorious. #westernaustralia #kimberleys #australia #lakeargyle #sunset by @desireewheare

I have a lovely glass of sauvignon blanc in preparation for my afternoon at Adelaide Festival Theatre to watch "Death of a Salesman". There is also a red carpet for it's first official performance after yesterday's previews. I had my photo taken. 😊 I have never been on a red carpet before. #anthonylapaglia #adelaide #festivaltheatre #southaustralia #deathofasalesman by @desireewheare

Late post but on 21st August, I visited Purnululu National Park and the Bungle Bungles. I had a helicopter flight over them before having a walk amongst them. What a beautiful place. I certainly enjoyed the fabulous scenery. #westernaustralia #bunglebungles #sunset #australia #helicopter by @desireewheare
