circa 2014 - differences between direct action and "civil disobedience" frameworks

agitating what are considered acceptable or worthwhile tactics is always necessary

Direct action because you create spaces that undermine capital and value xistems like property and people are exposed to alt. Means of interaction and we grow to cultivate resistance

Civil disobedience is often now creating a symbolic experience for people to appeal to “media” to mediate demands

Direct action can risk arrest

Civil disobedience as practiced now especially through the nonprofit industry plans arrest

Direct action can achieve goals determined by the group to fulfill a creative need or to explore effctive ways to undermine systems of power while building autonomy frm the state

Civil disobedience expects people to behave a particular way in order for a higher or outside power to intervene often reinforcing reliance on the state

Direct action gets the goods, undermines commerce and holds our ground regardless of laws

Civil disobedience upholds a moral exception to particular laws by @despairorrevolt

What if we decided not to stop? What if we are just getting started? In Solidarity with a Free Pxlestine

Nation states and international legal formations are not effective in stopping mass harm against people, or addressing colonialism. Instead, they are more effective at facilitating, funding and enabling harm despite what their people think, believe or do.

It is becoming clearer to impacted people everywhere that it is us, the regular people, who must learn each other struggles, witness each others pain and take direct action together in collective intervention against the dominant systems and states that hurt us.

We must really contend with how to reach each other across borders and waters, against blockades, against systems of oppression (racism, patriarchy, ableism, capitalism, trans and queer phobia, state violence +++), when internet and communication is cut off.

What if we didn't stop? Free Pxlestine, an end to zi0nist occupation, ethnic cleansing, genocide and the blockade, has been resisted by Pxlestinian people for 75 years. Many people are rapidly learning how to show up against colonialism, or at least against the visible escalating genocide in Pxlestine, and making connections about genocides happening in Tigray, Congo, Sudan and other regions.

The lessons we are learning - about collective mobilization, action, material disruption and solidarity in practice, and across cultures - need to be nurtured, as they are always necessary as long as oppression exists on the scale it does now.

The message from Pxlestinians is clear - a ceasefire is not the primary goal - instead an end to occupation, the blockade, a right to return, a deOccupied Pxlestine is the goal. We must be in this for the long haul, when the visibilty fades, when the children who are orphaned now are growing up. And we will sharpen our capacity together along the way.

There has always be a need for a strong and direct anti war/ anti oppression movements, especially when combating imperialism, settler colonialism and capitalism/ resource extraction of the global south. (continued in comments) by @despairorrevolt

Strike planning guide for people interested in building full shut down general strikes. Strike for Autonomy and Liberation not concessions! Strike for Autonomy framing for people who want autonomy and liberation in this lifetime. Going to put this up as an article since it's so text heavy. Link will be in bio by tomorrow!

The capacity and infrastructure we build to sustain a strike, can also be used to sustain autonomous communities organized for liberation.

WHAT IS AUTONOMY?
(autonomy): self governance or self-governed societies based on shared principles, self-determination and voluntary association or choice. Also: Collective Autonomy, communal-self governance.

For those who always separate mobilization from organization - this provides another framework for weaving our organization and mobilization together, with room for a multitude of groups, approaches and tactics. How we mobilize can build broader, more interconnected, deeper movements. Organizing for strikes are great practice, building rolling strikes and smaller actions up to the larger ones. Been meaning to write this for like 3 years so both devastated and motivated by the times to get this out.

*thanks to the friend who read through and provided feedback and encouragement on this post. And the many friends and comrades who have practiced strike organizing and informed these learnings.

Non silence is the bare minimum. Is it enough, no! If anti Blackness is daily and systemic then it needs to be on radar for those who do not experience/ who do benefit from it daily. This is our concern. We cannot quote Assata and not share in the reality, we cannot ever coast on the lies post racial liberalism tried to teach us. by @despairorrevolt

Protest does not truly exist in Amerikka. And the pockets it emerges from - the oppressed, the angry, the youth, the disposessed, the anti authoritarians - are repressed and resented by all other sectors of society. In other countries they call it - manifestations, interventions, rebellion. In the US its posturing and self comforting outlets, its collective walks and self preservation. The lie is so great you cant even see how you wield it against yourself. by @despairorrevolt

In a repeat of 2001-2003, the US appears intent on War, invasion and the mass murdering of the Iranian people, facilitating a ground invasion as they are getting their bases necessarily attacked in response to their war of aggression initiated against Iran. by @despairorrevolt

At the very least, while coerced to perform work for capitalism, to maintain a social order of minimizing reality, to assure our loved ones we are assimilating okay, to not flame out in existential nihilism... unless of course that is your choice.. we must not lie to ourselves. We cannot enable the Power of mistruth, manipulation and mass thinking. Mass thinking is a symptom of the current social order not a platform to cater to. by @despairorrevolt
