This is snippet from a short documentary I worked on last year. Titled “Celebrations”, this is a landscape film; one that allows place, space and environment to speak for themselves. It gives the spaces and environments we live in an opportunity to define their own narratives and become the storytellers.

Over the course of a couple weeks, I filmed in Fruitvale, Oakland. Culminating on a final day of shooting at the annual Día De Los Muertos Festival in Fruitvale Village. Interacting with community members, sitting with the trees and speaking to folks and friends, I sat with Fruitvale hoping to allow the community to show its own story. As I was filming, the community began to craft its own story: a narrative of celebration, calmness and a showcase of what dynamic strength of looks like on a day of celebration and in the everyday of life.
