Would you believe me if I told you this is the Netherlands? 🍇🇳🇱

Welcome to Zuid-Limburg wine country — think rolling hills, vineyards, beautiful views and some seriously good Dutch wine. 🍷

And yes… you can absolutely do this with toddlers 👶🏻🤍

Here are a few of my favourites:

🍇 Wijndomein St. Martinus — Vijlen
Best price / quality. Here they make sustainable and organic wine! The setting of their terrace is unreal; surrounded by the beautiful Limburg hills.
And their newest location Löss combines wine with dining and an overnight stay!

🍇 Domein Holset — Holset/Vaals
If you love bubbles, put this one on your list!✨ in my opinion Holset had the most beautiful setting! Looking for a romantic getaway? You can even stay overnight in their boutique hotel, right in the middle of the wine country…. 😍

🍇 Wijngoed Fromberg — Ubachsberg
Good wine, “make your own” charcuterie board with local products to go along with the wine & a lovely terrace to enjoy the surroundings.

🍇 Apostelhoeve — Maastricht
One of the Netherlands’ oldest wine estates, beautifully located! Also a must visit, especially if you’re near Maastricht!

My ultimate tip travelling with kids?👀

Go for the “route de vins”! Experience the beautiful surroundings by walking, it is a great way to combine multipe wineries & this way your kids can burn-off some energy! Once you’ve arrived at the wineries? Your kids will have space to roam & explore the vineyards! (Bonus tip: do bring some snacks for them tho, as they might noy enjoy the bites served at the wineries)

Dear parents…. Please allow yourselfes days like this too! Because family-friendly travel doesn’t always have to mean playgrounds and kids’ activities. Sometimes it looks like this. 🍷

Think dramatic cliffs, lush green mountains, charming fishing villages, incredible food, and some of the most beautiful coastal views in Europe. It feels like a completely different side of Spain.

These places deserve a spot on your Basque Country itinerary:

⚓ Bermeo – A colourful harbour town that’s the perfect base for visiting the iconic San Juan de Gaztelugatxe.

🌊 Zumaia - Epic Flysch cliffs, family-friendly hiking trails and one of Europe’s most spectacular coastlines

🍇 Rioja Alavesa – Rolling vineyards, medieval villages like Laguardia and stunning wineries such as Ysios and Marqués de Riscal, this is where world-class wine meets remarkable architecture.

📍 Getaria – A postcard-perfect fishing village with an incredible atmosphere. Famous for its gastronomy, here you’ll taste some of the best grilled fish you’ll ever eat. Stay until golden hour and hike up Mount San Antón for an unforgettable sunset.

One place. SO many things to do. And yes… you could easily spend the whole day here. 👀🤍

Welcome to Natuurkwartier Nieuwegein 💚

Here are a few of the things we love most about this place:

🐐 IJsselstee petting zoo — meet the goats, sheep, donkeys, pigs and more.

🦶 Barefoot trail — kick off those shoes and let the kids explore different textures, from muddy sections and sand to wood and more.

🍄 Kabouterpad — a little nature adventure that’s especially fun for younger kids.

🛝 Nature playground — always a quick win with our kids!

☕ And when everyone needs a break? POM Buiten is right there in the middle of it all, serving breakfast, lunch, specialty coffee and homemade cakes. 🌸🤍

So you can start with coffee, explore the animals, get muddy, play, follow the Kabouterpad… and finish with lunch at POM.

Basically: one location, hours of entertainment. 🤩

The purple heather is BLOOMING in the Netherlands RIGHT NOW 💜🌿

And if you’re looking for a beautiful place to see it with kids, save this one. 👀👇

📍 Kaapse Bossen, Utrecht

What I love about this spot? You don’t need a big hike to see the heather. From the parking area, a short walk already takes you to those beautiful purple fields — making it a great option with little kids and even a stroller. 🤍

Hikes I recommend with kids:
🌿 Rondje Helenaheuvel — 1.8 km
🌲 Rondje Kaapse Bossen — around 5 km
👀 Don’t miss the viewpoint tower De Kaap
🧺 Finish with a picnic and let the kids play
☕ Or stop at Chalet Helenaheuvel for beautiful views over the blooming heather

If I really loved you, I’d take you here for a weekend. 🥂🤍

Because yes… you can stay in a vineyard in the Netherlands.

Domein Holset is one of those Zuid-Limburg gems that makes you feel like you’ve escaped abroad — rolling vineyards, beautiful views, Limburgse bubbles and a gorgeous boutique hotel right in the middle of it all. 🍇

Domein Holset specialises in Limburgse sparkling wines, and you can combine a visit with a tasting, a walk through the surrounding Heuvelland and an overnight stay overlooking the vineyards. 🥂🌿

I found the sweetest little escape in Leiden… and my kids absolutely loved it. 🌿🤍

Welcome to De Tuin van de Smid 🧡, tucked away in the green surroundings of Polderpark Cronesteyn.

While we enjoyed our coffee, the kids had their own little adventure going on! 🤩 There’s SO much for little explorers to discover:

🌿 Explore Polderpark Cronesteyn by foot or bike
💦 Let the kids play at the water playground with pumps & wooden rafts — my two absolutely loved this!!
🐑 Wander among the sheep and meet the other animals that call De Tuin van de Smid their home
🪵 Let them enjoy the large sandbox & outdoor play area
👶🏻 Indoor kid’s corner
✨ @Dankjewelness is also located on the same grounds, and it looked absolutely amazing!

And just like that… surrounded by animals, greenery and open space, the city suddenly feels very far away. 🌿

A perfect day out with our little ones — 10/10 would recommend! 🤍

Ps. there’s even more coming… 🌱 A new nature playground is currently being built and is planned to open next year!

So if you’re looking for a family-friendly day out in Leiden, save this one for later. 👀🤍

If you’re planning a trip to Vorarlberg, Austria 🇦🇹 — save this one. 🥾🤍

These are 3 of my favourite hikes in the Bregenzerwald & Vorarlberg region:

🥾 Schoppernau — take the cable car up and hike down towards the middle station, with a beautiful mountain hut stop along the way. The perfect combination of views + a little alpine break. ⛰️☕️

🥾 Bezau — start at the mountain station and follow the trail towards Gasthütte Niedere for those incredible panoramic mountain views. A walk your toddler will be able to do all by themselves 🤍

🥾 Rappenlochschlucht — something completely different. A spectacular gorge hike near Dornbirn, with dramatic rock walls, water, and forest along the way. The official circular route is around 4 km and takes about 1.5 hours.

And the best part? You get three completely different hiking experiences in one region. 👀

We found this gem right on top of the Gulperberg — and honestly, it’s such a good spot when you’re exploring Zuid-Limburg with little ones. 🤍

You get:

You really don’t need to leave the Netherlands for a day that feels like a mini holiday. 🤍

If you’re looking for a family-friendly day out near Amsterdam, save this one…

📍 Vinkeveense Plassen

We recently stayed overnight at 📍Vrijhaven Zwier, and our stay included a boat rental — which made exploring the Vinkeveense Plassen so easy. 🚤

With our toddler, the boat was definitely our favourite way to explore. We could cruise around, stop whenever we wanted and discover little beaches along the way.

👶🏼 OUR FAVOURITE SPOTS WITH LITTLE ONES

🏝️ Zandeiland 1

This was one of our favourites for toddlers — and you don’t need a boat to get there!

✔️ Shallow water that’s great for little ones
✔️ Swimming area separated from the boating channel
✔️ Playground right next to the beach

🏝️ Zandeiland 8

Probably one of the nicest family islands if you’re looking for something a little quieter.

✔️ Shallow water
✔️ Playground
✔️ Swimming area separated from the boats by wooden barriers
✔️ Much quieter than Zandeiland 1

The catch? You can only reach it by boat. 🚤

Our picks if you’re looking to swim, relax and find your own little spot away from the crowds. 🤍

🛶 HAVE SLIGHTLY OLDER KIDS?

You can also rent SUPs or kayaks and make exploring the Plassen part of the adventure.

With our toddler, though, the boat was definitely the easiest option for us.

Café Goedemorgen 🍎
A lovely place to stop — and don’t leave without trying their homemade apple pie.

Wander Island 🍹
Perfect for a drink or some bites during your day on the water.

And honestly, this is what I loved most about the Vinkeveense Plassen:

You can make the day as adventurous or as relaxed as you want.

Basically… a mini holiday without actually leaving the Netherlands. 🤍

The past few days reminded me that sometimes the best escapes are much closer to home than you’d think 🤍

Just 15 minutes from Amsterdam, we found a place where life slows down. Where the kids can roam freely, parents finally get to recharge, and somehow everyone comes home feeling refreshed.

That’s exactly what makes 📍Vrijhaven Zwier so special. it’s about creating space to do as little or as much as you like- it’s about slowing down, living in the moment, and truly switching off.

And if you do feel like exploring, there’s plenty to discover:
🚤 Explore the Vinkeveense Plassen by boat
🛶 Go kayaking or paddleboarding
🏖️ Visit one of the beautiful beaches “zandeilanden” (I’ll be sharing my favourites soon! 👀)
🍎 Walk to Café Goedemorgen and don’t leave without trying their homemade apple pie
🌴 End the day with drinks and bites at Wander island

Who says toddlers can’t hike? 🥾✨

In Zumaia Geopark, you’ll find easy, accessible viewpoints that your toddler can actually walk to on their own.

Our little explorer proudly climbed both trails herself. Sure, we stopped every few minutes to inspect rocks, admire flowers, and point at the incredible coastal views—but honestly, that’s what made it so special. 🫶🏼

📍 Our favourite toddler-friendly viewpoints:

🧡 Algorri – A relatively short walk with incredible views and safe paths, perfect for little legs.

🧡 Itzurun Beach – Home to the iconic flysch cliffs, plus a beautiful beach where kids can play while you soak up the scenery (and watch the surfers 🏄‍♀️).

Want a little more adventure? 🥾

Hike (part of) the GR-121 between Zumaia and Deba. The full trail is around 15 km, but even a shorter section is absolutely worth it for the dramatic cliffs and endless ocean views. We’d recommend using a child carrier for this one.

This is Lake Constance (Bodensee in German) 🇩🇪✨

We stumbled upon this place on our way to Austria, and it turned out to be one of Europe’s most beautiful hidden gems.

Some even call it the quieter alternative to Lake Como—and after visiting, we can definitely see why.

Our favorite place around Lake Constance? 👇🏼

📍Lindau

This charming island town feels like it was made for a family getaway.

Think colorful streets, a beautiful lakeside promenade, playgrounds, ice cream stops, cozy cafés, and plenty of space for little explorers to run around. Best of all? Most of the old town is completely car-free, making it even more enjoyable with toddlers.
