In 2020 I attended LSU.. I reached a level of depression so bad that I didn’t want to leave my room,and instead of gaining freshman 15 ,I lost it. Even though most of the time I felt like my world was being disfigured, I attempted to push through and started attending UNO. That year I also began working for KIPP.. life felt better. I had a job that I enjoyed and school was finally picking back up…then my dad died. Doing well in school always made my daddy sooo proud of me My main reason for wanting to not just do school , but to do WELL in school was ripped away from me on a random day.I constantly felt like my back was against the wall , on top of how I was already feeling I was introduced to grief in a such a huge way that it shifted who I was. Nobody understood me and my depression got worse , the amount of anger I had built up felt never ending and for a long time I couldn’t see a light at the end of the tunnel. Though I couldn’t function in everyday life, God never ever allowed me to feel that way about my job and soon I would see why. Working for KIPP ; at Douglass specifically saved my life. On the days when I felt like nothing made sense my babies popped into my head. Hearing “Ms.Destiniiiii!” or “Des, can you help me?” kept me going. One day I told God, “If I could have school be attached to my job in some kind of way , I bet I could actually get through it.” A week or so later KIPP New Orleans introduced A paraprofessional to teacher pathway.God has always in some way showed up when I needed him , but a direct prayer ? Gave me all the indication I needed that not only is God REAL but he’s listening to us! I had never lived in an answered prayer this way. Then I lost my mawmaw. Her death was sudden and extremely traumatic. I felt like my lifeline was shut off , my whole world was flipped upside down , However ,this time I felt differently about God. I trusted God differently. I’m stating this chapter of my life as my testimony, delayed never means denied when God is your provider. The love of God got me here. Kept me here too.
