Detroit Black Panther Party Honor Guard. We Are Here In Service To The People. All Power To The People!
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Congo’s fight for self determination is connected to our fight here in Detroit. From the minerals powering Big Tech to the exploitation of our communities, corporate wealth is built on stolen resources, exploited labor and colonial violence. We refuse to accept a world where profit comes before people. We’re taking action, challenging the corporations that benefit from this violence and building the power to shut down business as usual. One rally won’t end imperialism. We need lasting relationships, political education, survival programs and community-controlled resources to sustain our struggle beyond the streets.

The goal is more than protest. It’s building the power to break from the systems exploiting us.

The Black Panther Party was founded on October 15th, 1966 by Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale. What started out as a community patrol to monitor and combat police brutality soon grew into a flourishing ecosystem of community programs, from the famous free Breakfast Program, free clinics, and permanent political education. In fact, our programs were so effective that J Edgar Hoover deemed our organization the “greatest threat to the internal security of the country.”

Sixty years ago, on October 15th 1966 the Black Panther Party was born from oppression and from the people’s struggle for liberation. The Ten Point Program, written in 1966, remains a living demand. The conditions that gave rise to the Party endure. The war waged against the Panthers was never only against the Panthers, it was an attack on the people, our movements and our self determination. That war did not end, it continues today wherever our communities are repressed and our fight for collective freedom is met with force.

That said the people’s flame has never extinguished. Every 20 minutes, a Panther is born in the ghettos, under occupation, inside the prisons and wherever people live beneath the boot of the oppressor. A Panther is born wherever people choose to serve, defend and struggle alongside one another. From Oakland to Tacoma, from Detroit to wherever the Panther growls our revolutionary spirit endures. We honor Bobby Seale, Huey P. Newton, Assata Shakur, George Jackson and all who sacrificed for the people’s liberation named and unnamed. Their struggle lives in us, their unfinished work is ours to carry. Sixty years later we are still organizing, still serving, still fighting for liberation. The struggle continues. The revolution lives.

An Important thing we feel we may have forgotten to reinforce in these slides is that the base and superstructure always continue to uphold and feed into each other. And this framework can be used for much deeper analysis of the entire system we live under as a whole. Every single struggle has ties to each other. We hear reactionaries say you're so focused on stuff over there go there and help, or using their own struggles in the imperial core as a reason to ignore others struggles outside of it as if our very lifestyles aren't subsidized off the back of the global south and swana region. It's frustrating. And we hope this helps people better grasp why all struggles are connected. What happened with @vrbo and the property owner is part of why accountability matters. When people are left carrying the consequences of a company’s policies and an owner’s refusal to work toward a resolution, we cannot accept being passed back and forth without meaningful support.

We are standing firm, continuing to press for accountability and doing so with the strength of a community that refuses to leave its people behind. We’re grateful to everyone who has shown up for us and committed to turning that solidarity into continued organizing and people led alternatives rooted in self determination, care and responsibility. All Power to the People. ❤️‍🔥✊🏾

💜🌻 On October 11, the Black Panther Party Honor Guard carried out our ceremonial responsibilities at Marygrove Conservancy, standing alongside the family, comrades and loved ones who traveled from near and far to celebrate Curtis Renee. We were grateful for the opportunity to serve and bear witness to a life that reached so many. It was, without question one of the most beautiful Homegoings ever. The literature, music and attire came together in a vivid expression of African heritage and cultural pride. Every element felt deliberate, grounded in tradition, alive with meaning and abundant in love. Too often, ceremonies of mourning reproduce customs without making space to question whose traditions they reflect or what they ask us to remember. This gathering offered something different. It offered a reclamation of ritual, identity and collective care.

We stand steadfast with Curtis’s family and all those whose paths Curtis touched. May we all carry forward the love, courage and revolutionary spirit that filled the day. Energy does not perish, it transforms and moves through us in our memories, our bonds and the struggle we continue together. Long Live Comrade Curtis Renee and All Power to the People. @wayne.curtis36 @myrtle_tc 🫂

This trip was about more than travel. It was about honoring a sacred legacy, celebrating 60 years of Black Panther Party history and uplifting our ongoing work for liberation and people’s power.

Our elders deserve to be present for this historic occasion. Instead, $1,718.84 in community raised funds is at risk while Vrbo and the host refuse to offer a resolution. Profit over people is the problem. Our elders and our movements should never pay the price.

Help us demand accountability. Share this post and spread the word.

✊🏾 Want our template for calling the Vrbo manager? Comment SOLIDARITY and we’ll send it to you. All Power to the People!
