Huge Detroit News! A New 22-acre Park has opened on the Detroit Riverfront 📣🌳

This weekend marks the official opening of the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Centennial Park on the @detroitriverfront.

A new boardwalk has also opened, running in front of Riverfront Towers and connecting downtown to the new park. 🎉

The park has 4 major sections:

1. 🛝🧸 The 5-acre Delta Dental Play Garden
With a 20+ foot Bear Slide, multiple slides, and fun play structures of animals like an otter, beaver, fox, fish, and more
🦦🦫🦊🐠
✏️ Fun fact: the concepts were created by Detroit school kids!
The Gilbert Family Foundation Water Wonderland in the play garden will have its grand opening in spring 2026 💦

2. 🏀 28,000 square foot William Davidson Sport House
Featuring 2 full-sized Detroit Pistons basketball courts and a 2,000 foot skylight 🐴☀️

3. 💧A 2.5-acre Water Garden, the first official Huron-Clinton Metroparks facility in the City of Detroit
The area features scenic trails, seating, and a bridge.
Fun fact: the pond water is brought in from the Detroit River! 🌊

4. 🌿 The DTE Foundation Summit, an expansive green space featuring the highest point in the park
An all-season location for sledding, picnicking, and outdoor play

The park also features:
🎨 Beautiful art painted during Detroit’s @blkoutwalls mural festival, the nation’s largest Black-Owned Mural Festival. Painted by @sydneygjames and @maxsansing.

Plus, the park offers views of both the @ambassadorbridge and the @gordiehowebrg. 🌉

This is a historic moment, made possible by thousands of hours of work. It expands the Riverfront to almost 5 miles of revitalized waterfront, and you can now go from Michigan Central to the Southwest Greenway, to the park, the downtown Riverwalk, and then Belle Isle all on one path. 🚂🌳🌊

This weekend is also the annual The Detroit Harvest Fest & Food Truck Rally! 🎃 The free two-day event October 25 & 26 will feature live entertainment, food trucks, and family activities.

One week from today at Gabriel Richard Park!

Moonlight Yoga is BACK on the Detroit Riverfront with sessions July 29, August 12 and August 26.

Presented by our friends at @priorityhealth , join us with @urban.solace.detroit for an evening of energetic, outdoor yoga at dusk - complete with glow accessories and music along the beautiful Detroit River.

There are spots still available for the July 29 session. Registration for the August sessions opens up on the Thursday two weeks before each class.

📖 🎶💃🏻 A big thanks to the @detroitriverfront Conservancy for inviting me to read to the kids this year for the kick-off of their annual Reading and Rhythm on the Riverfront!

This is one of my favorite events of the year. The kids seem to have so much fun enjoying the live music, dancing, and story time — all while enjoying the summer breeze along the Detroit river with their family and friends!

My session took place on July 10th at Gabriel Richard Park near the Belle Isle Bridge.

I read “If you Give a Mouse a Cookie” — a classic!
And then afterwards, the kiddos got to pick out their very own new book from the Detroit Public Library’s Library On Wheels!

They also enjoyed a free snack!

Admission is totally free! But pre-registration is encouraged (and necessary for groups of 10 or more - like camps, etc).

The program runs each Thursday and Friday through August 14th, 2026. There are two 45-minute sessions of music and reading— at 10:00am and 11:30am.

If you have little ones at home, this is a fun outing to consider during the summer months in the D!

Join the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy on Wednesday, July 22 at 5pm for a guided Inside|Out Walking Tour along the Southwest Greenway with DIA docents.

After the tour, head to Ralph Wilson Park for Movie Night featuring Dreamgirls at 7pm.

Meet at the Bagley trailhead. This event is free and open to the public! More info at the link:
