Made some progress on the engine swap tonight. Started the swap of the engine harness. Then I found the fuel pressure regulator was smashed somehow and when the importers were cutting hoses they cut the EGR hose that goes back to itself. #wrx by @deusetsicarius

Small weekend update. I was able to work on transferring all the sensors on the timing cover to the "new" engine. I was also able to install the new high flow oil pickup tube and the oil pan. Can now start chipping away at some little things. by @deusetsicarius

Finally got the timing cover installed. Made some custom guide pins to help and practiced installing dry over and over again. Still hit the dang water pump. Looks like the squeeze out was solid. Should hold just fine. #wrx by @deusetsicarius

Decided to clean up the oil pump area just incase some debris from painting, sanding and degreasing got in there. Glad I did. It was really sludged up and a couple screws weren't as tight as others. Regret doing this after paiting the cover because some brake clean still ate some clear coat. Guess it wasnt fully cured after all. #wrx by @deusetsicarius

Preparing the engine surface for the painted timing cover. Was cleaning off old RTV and found this sharp ledge. It didnt exist on the old engine so I filed it down to stop it from catching when installing the new RTV. #wrx by @deusetsicarius

Little behind on posting activities. Needed to cure this big part. Foil lined a cardboard box and used a hair dryer. Hope it works out. #wrx #gitrdone by @deusetsicarius

#fa20dit #wrx Put in some work the other day. Had the timing cover off. Why not make it shiny?! Weather did not cooperate so it was done in a closed garage. Rest of the house was not happy. by @deusetsicarius

Did the scary part of the engine swap the other day. Had to unbolt and unclip these USDM sensor flags and swap them over to the JDM engine. USDM has tabs and JDM has indents. I was able to swap 1 at a time and for extra precaution I used vice grips to secure the rear of the crankshaft inplace. After the swap I turned the crank a few times and as far as I can tell the timing stayed true. Now I gotta clean up the 6 linear feet of RTV from the timing cover and then the engine. by @deusetsicarius

Went to do compression tests on the new engine. Could only get a proper seal on cylinder 1 and 2. The valves had a crazy amount of carbon build up. Spent the day walnut blasting. Took me a min to get the right technique down. Valves all clean. Cylinder 3 and 4 definitely had stuff on the valve seat. Cleaned that up. Going to compression test 3 and 4 after work tomorrow. by @deusetsicarius

Had to buy a bigger toy to get the crank pulley off. Son and I were able to finnally pull the timing cover and start getting the needed cam position sensors plates. Found some "heat treated" bolts on the bottom side of the timing cover. Definitely confirms some overheating conditions. by @deusetsicarius

Rod Knock at 104k miles. Great new project for my son and I to pull the motor. Here is my son helping my pull the radiator and turbo. by @deusetsicarius
