MEET MY GUITARIST FOR DC, PHILLY, AND NYC: DEVON!

🔹how did you get into riot grrrl?
💪My parents raised me to be a passionate feminist and not just an advocate for myself, but an advocate for others as well. After playing music with a lot of boys in my teens, I decided the next project I was in HAD to be with women and femme musicians. I also realized I couldn’t just make music about anything with the world around me feeling so fucked up. Riot grrrl feels so right when so much around us feels so shit.

🔹what made you choose guitar?
🎸 My dad played guitar and the first song I ever wrote was with him. It was about friendship. I started more seriously learning guitar when I was 11 and fell in love with it. I’ve been playing and writing constantly since then, either on stage or in my bedroom.

🔹what are you looking forward to about playing music together?
💭I’m so exciting to bring these songs to a live stage and audience! So many people have amazing memories attached to these songs and I’m so honored to be a part of the next set of memories made.

🔹what can you say about the other bands we'll be playing with?
👯They are INCREDIBLE! As the guitarist and one of the vocalists in Mac N’ Toss I can assure you this is a tour like no other. When we selected local bands in DC, Philly, and NYC we were looking for folks who are keeping the spirit of riot grrrl alive and innovating on it in much needed ways for this new generation. Folks like RenRiot, Soji, and Eevie Echos are bringing femme and queer led punk to main stage and I am elated to have them join!

🔹what is the value of intergenerational feminist collaboration?
🫂Community and solidarity! There is so much strength and empowerment in highlighting similarities in our struggles while still recognizing how our identities can lead to different experiences within the same system. Without seeing both those similarities and differences, we cannot move forward in an equitable and useful way for all. I never want to be in a room where everyone looks the same. I want my community to reflect the world I want to see around me — diverse, strong, caring, creative, moving forward always to a better and queerer future! by @dev.con
