🍻IDIDTHAT and Heineken Beverages presents I SAID THAT, the Q&A series featuring South Africa’s top creative talent🍻

Copywriter Devaksha Vallabhjee and art director Danike de Jager have spent almost a decade moving through the industry side by side, from Ogilvy to AndPeople, King James (now Accenture), Saatchi & Saatchi, Duke and now FCB. We caught up with the long-time creative partners to talk about how ideas get made, what they’re looking for in director treatments, the South African work they wish they’d done, and why protecting a great idea is often the hardest part of the job. by @devaksha_v

In our latest Black Creative Insight, Devaksha Vallabhjee, Creative Group Head at FCB Africa, reflects on AI, creativity and what it really takes for black creatives to make meaningful work. Why can’t AI replicate what we do?

Did you know that there’s a Nelson Mandela statue in Ramallah, Palestine identical to ours in Joburg? (last frame)

It was a gift from South Africa as a symbol of our solidarity with the Palestinian struggle for freedom. South Africa always has and always will stand with Palestine. When we say “never again”, we mean it.

I’m so grateful that I got to experience this remote, desolate landscape - it makes you feel tiny speck of dust, in a good way.

Counting sheep across Ireland 🐑🐑🐑 by @devaksha_v

As a wide-eyed 17 year old, my dad came to Dublin to study - it was the 70s when people of colour couldn’t easily get into university in SA. Not only was he able to study (at the building pictured here covered in scaffolding when I went 🙄), but his political awakening started here. Ireland was an instrumental ally to South Africa, they pressured the rest of Europe to impose the boycotts and sanctions that ultimately ended apartheid.
Still now, one of the only European countries to show solidarity with Palestine.

Coming here was like coming to place that I already knew - after hearing so much about it my whole life. Dublin, you are amazing! 💚🍀🍻✊🏾 by @devaksha_v
