Detroit Creative Economy: How Devankar Mukhi Is Building the Infrastructure Creators Deserve

Great stories don't just inspire people. They create opportunities.

For Devankar Mukhi, one conversation during LA Tech Week changed how he saw his work. Being introduced as the founder of a creative agency instead of the person behind the camera reinforced a bigger vision: creators deserve to be recognized not only for what they make, but for the businesses and communities they help build.

That vision led to the creation of 888 Creative, where storytelling becomes a tool for founders, brands, and small businesses to grow. Through every project, partnership, and founder story, Devankar is helping make high-quality creative resources more accessible to entrepreneurs across Detroit.

Anddddd fin.

This chapter of life concluded at last week’s Creative Collision From Creative to Creativepreneur

2 years I feel like has been the tutorial. lol.

Everyday is an opportunity to learn from

2 years of building @888creative_ where it is currently at has been only possible because of people that said our name in rooms I wasn’t in

Introduced me to people that became an opportunity for us to create for

And just provided us a chance to create for them.

I don’t know how we got here, it’s been nothing but a rollercoaster. All I know is, the next 2 years aren’t going to be a tutorial anymore, its time to scale, it’s time to systemize, and it’s time to become even more dialed, intentional, and a better practitioner of the craft

Thank you for everyone who’s ever shown up, whispered our name, or just liked a post of ours

You have no idea how much it means to me seeing what was an idea, is slowly becoming something bigger than myself.

AUSTIN CITY LIMITS DAYS 1 & 2
FT. WHERE’S WALDO(S)

My flight got delayed, then had a weird issue, I didn’t have a good feeling so I got off the plane, something inside was telling me I needed to stay an extra day in Austin

Booked the first Airbnb that came on my search, when I got there all I saw were 35 Waldo’s standing outside of it and I was like damn I must be in the wrong place

Turns out I was actually in the very right one

The group asked me if I ran track with their friend Neil

At this I’m like lol what where am I and they were like oh you’re not here for Neil’s bachelor party? Well here’s a shirt now you are, join us today at ACL

Sometimes unexpected detours happen because they were always supposed to, and saying yes to the spontaneous become life’s most cherished memories

And yes… I am now invited to the wedding

All I can say is for the first time in a long time, I truly felt like I belonged yesterday at @irwinhousedetroit.

It was a room full of real dialogue about what needs to be set in place in order for Michigan to become a place for creative work to thrive.

Deeply honored to have been able share the room with creatives from all walks of life, thank you @bgcgreaterdetroit, @shawnhwilson6, @producerbae_, @arlayaw for being stewards for people like me to have open conversations with culture shifters like @bigsean and our very own Secretary of State & Democratic Governor Nominee @jocelynbenson.

It’s not common for rooms like this to mix,
but in Detroit, it is.
Because in Detroit, we’re all here trying our hardest to be the best we can so we can continue to make the world the best we can.
