I had so much fun at my first book signing today!! Thank y’all so much for coming out to support me. 🥰 I cannot express the gratitude I feel. Even though I am a poet, I find myself at a loss for words. Thank you thank you thank you!! 🫶🏼 taken in Barnes & Noble by @deveree

🪽 September is Suicide Awareness Month

I was tempted to make you all aware in a different way (🤪)—but, words seem to be my thing.
So, I’m going to tell you a story instead.

In July of 2025, I tried to take my own life.

I had a litany of reasons why I wanted to leave this world behind. I felt that my existence seemed pointless.
Plagued with plenty of defects that tarnished my potential for perfection.
There was not a single thing that could keep me stuck in this dysfunctional body.

Running my fingers across the tapestry of my life, I realized most of it was woven with suffering.
There were threads of joy, sure—but they were shadowed by the details of despair.

Was I not destined for great things? Am I meant to be an example, a cautionary tale for others, a reminder to those who haven’t ever felt the way I have—that they are blessed and far luckier than me?

Instead of debating these questions, I thought I found an answer.

Relief,
by death.

There would be no pain, physical or emotional. No memories. No future experiences to further traumatize me.

I thought if I could open my flesh and release the disease—
to force the poison
to leak out of me,
that I would finally be free.

I did not succeed.

I’m still continuing to stitch my wounds. Yes, sometimes they still bleed.

But all I can do,
is try to continue to breathe.

📞 U.S. Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: Call or text 988.

I share this in hopes you carry a little more empathy with you going forward. Check in on your loved ones.

⭐️ I’m so incredibly honored to have been featured by Voyage ATL Magazine as a Rising Star and to have the opportunity to share a little more of the story behind the poet, author, and literary artist I’ve spent years becoming.

Writing has always been the place where I turned the things I couldn’t say into something I could leave behind. From my first chapbook to becoming a published poet and independent author, every book, every poem, every page has carried a piece of me with it.

So to have my work, and the journey behind it, recognized as part of Voyage ATL’s Rising Stars means more than I can really put into words.

There were so many moments when I wondered if anyone would ever see what I was trying to build. So many seasons of writing in obscurity. So many dreams that felt too big to say out loud.

And now my name is sitting in a magazine as a Rising Star.

That feels pretty fucking surreal!!

I’m endlessly grateful to everyone who has read my poetry, bought my books, shared my words, followed this journey, or reminded me that there is room in this world for the stories I have to tell.

This is more than a feature to me.

It’s a reminder that I’m still becoming.

And if this is what rising looks like…

I can’t wait to see what happens when I finally arrive. 🦋

Thank you, Voyage ATL, for seeing me and giving me a space to tell my story.

Here’s to the poet, the author, the dreamer, the woman behind the words—and everything she hasn’t written yet.

Read my Voyage ATL Rising Star feature at the link in my bio. ⭐️

kinda chic to build a life out of the words you once wrote in private. ✨

from filling journals with dreams, to filling shelves with poetry books, to standing on stages sharing my stories —every chapter started with a blank page.

being a poet means noticing the little things, feeling everything deeply, and turning the moments that break you into art that connects you with others.

this is your sign to romanticize your creativity, pick up the pen, and create something only you can make. 🤍

for the writers, readers, poets, and dreamers who believe words have the power to heal.

issue no. 53 is live on frolickin.net
this issue features @deveree in a Q&A where we talk about love, heartbreak, grief, friendship, and the quiet resilience it takes to keep going. Thru the eyes of the poet, we explore what survives after loss, the parts of ourselves we reclaim through healing, and the beauty of being deeply, unapologetically human. #frolickinforever by @deveree

One year of Hurricane Her 💙

She made landfall 365 days ago,
but her presence is still felt today.

Hurricane Her was the anchor
that kept me here in this
waking world with you all.
A devastating breakup,
emotional turmoil,
and the unraveling of
myself as I knew her—
was too overwhelming for me.

Honestly,
each poem started as a letter.
To my ex-lover, to my family, to my friends,
even my kitten, Luna…
Each piece was a goodbye etched
into tear-stained journal paper.

But,
as I kept writing,
I realized instead of crafting curses,
my words were rites for a resurrection.
Instead of shoveling dirt
onto my coffin,
I was raising myself from the dead.

Hurricane Her is a testament to my survival.
This 200+ page poetry collection revived me,
and I hope it can do the same for you.

Celebrate HH’s 1st Birthday with me by
sharing this post or even purchasing a copy!

🎙️✨ Last night’s poetry open mic at the Hammond Library was such a beautiful celebration of creativity, community, and storytelling.

As a Louisiana poet and author, getting to share my work and connect with other writers, artists, and readers in Hammond, LA meant everything to me. There’s something powerful about spoken word—about standing in your truth and letting your voice be heard. 🤍🌹

I’m so grateful to everyone who came out, listened, and supported my poetry. Every kind word, every moment of connection reminds me why I do this. Y’all truly make it worth it. 🥺✨

And a huge thank you to Spenser for organizing such a meaningful event and creating space for local artists to shine. 🫶🏼

If you missed it, my poetry collections (including Hurricane Her) are available to read—and now part of the Hammond library collection. 📚

#SupportLocalPoets and come experience the magic next time.

💗 You are not the people who failed to love you.

You are not who you loved.
You are not who loved you.
You *are* love.

A poem about self love, self forgiveness, and becoming whole again.

If you’re healing, rebuilding, or learning to love yourself after everything, my poetry collections were written for you.

Follow @thevixenofverse for raw modern poetry about healing, trauma, love, and survival. Save this if you needed the reminder today.
