UCLA,
Wow. Hard to believe it has been two years already. This was literally my dream school, and after maybe not the most fun or quick way, I finally get to say I am a Bruin! I cannot tell you how many games I ended up fitting in my short time here, but man on man I only wish I went to more. Shoutout both Bens for planning shows around my fandom!
And yah, sports are cool and everything, but I also must say how great it is to go to a public university as prestigious as this one. Public education is very important to me as my mother was a public school teacher for over 25 years and would always preach about just how important and necessary public education was, and for everyone to have access to that. That is why I am so grateful to have attended the #1 public university! Filled with some of the most talented and generous students, faculty, and staff in the entire world.
With all this said, and as much as I love UCLA and all the people, it would go against everything I stand for if I did not talk about administration and the “non-educational” side of UCLA. Serious change needs to be made. We must not live in fear or suppression under any circumstances, let alone on our public campuses where all go to challenge and better inform and educate ourselves about the world around us. The right to voice our opinions and concerns is something I believe deeply in, and is one of if not the main reason why I do this art form of theatre and performance. So when I see the silencing of voices anywhere, especially through peaceful protest, I get concerned. I get scared and can’t help but think what will be silenced next. We must not sit idly by and let those in “power” lead us into whatever direction or agenda they are pushing for. We must push back. We the people are the true power. Theatre and art may be the best way for me to fight back, but it will not be the only way, trust me.
Thank you,
