My Dad was a storyteller.

Growing up, my brothers and I begged him to tell us the same funny stories from his childhood before bed each night. As I got older, a simple question about work or relationships would be answered with a story of how he handled something similar. Sometimes I was just looking for a quick answer to a big question but I’d always walk away from those situations with a refreshed perspective on something completely unrelated.

Although his fight with cancer came to an end on Friday afternoon, he had the foresight to put many of the stories I grew up with in to his blog and 3 books. I won’t be able to tell the stories in the same way he did, but my family will get to experience them over and over again - there’s no way I’ll be able to repay him for that gift.

Of the many themes in his stories the one that shows itself the most is this - if you love someone tell them with your words but more importantly show them with your actions. It’s a simple concept but easy to forget in the hustle and bustle of life.

We all miss you terribly, Dad.

Lawson family update: We moved!

Saying goodbye to Dallas after 10 years was one of the hardest decisions we’ve ever made. It’s where Devin and I fell in love (again), I got my Masters degree and then my dream job. It’s where we made lifelong friends who became our family when we didn’t have any near us. And our sweetest memory is that it’s where we had our two babies.

Our future home here in Overland Park is expected to be completed by Christmas! The best part of it all will be watching Quinn and Miles grow up just steps away from their cousins, Charlotte and Cameron 😍 #KC #texasforever taken in Overland Park, Kansas by @devin_m_lawson
