It’s me, I’m Jane Doe.

We all have a story, it may not be as serious and traumatising as hers but we all have a story, or many, of times we had unwanted or unsolicited attention. Unwanted touch or advances. I have many.

The courage it has taken this woman to come forward, I can’t even fathom it. And now to have a journalist - a male journalist - try and oust her identity is abhorrent!

So I stand with her, and with the tens of thousands who say - I am Jane Doe.

If you haven’t ever grown a dinner plate dahlia variety, you MUST add it to your list for next year!

These giant flower heads are incredible and I love growing these huge dahlias to add to my flower displays and our house. They look so good in the field and every year I honestly can’t believe just how huge they get!

This week’s Sunday book club recommendation is The Living Soil Handbook by @notillgrowers

This book has been a ln absolute game changer for me in my journey to scaling up my growing to establish and develop @devon_dig_and_donate and as I embark on my next venture, I know it will become my go to for ideas and advice for scaling up even further.

The book is teeming with practical advice, step by step processes for regenerative approaches, and lots of helpful diagrams and explanations.

If you’re scaling up your growing or starting out on a bigger space, this is a must have for you!

After 7 years, it’s time to say goodbye to my beloved allotment.

As many of you know, I’ve been wrestling with this decision for months now and I’ve come to the decision that it is time to pass this patch of earth on to someone else.

There are a number of reasons:
🌱 I don’t have the time and capacity to keep on top of it alongside running my community garden @devon_dig_and_donate
🌱 I have started growing food in our back garden which is a lot easier to manage time wise and we love having food just outside the kitchen.
🌱 our village is a Duchy village and recently we were informed that the land is being sold from the Duchy meaning the allotments, and other local assets are at risk.
🌱 I want someone else to discover their love of growing in this space now I don’t have time to tend to it.

At first I thought giving it up was a failure but now I realise it’s just the next step in my growing journey…

This week’s Sunday book club recommendation is the truly brilliant Designing Regenerative Food Systems by Marina O’Connel, who sadly isn’t with us any more.

Marina rounded the @apricotcentre in South Devon and this book has absolutely changed my life. I never thought in a million years I would be planning a career in farming but the work she founded at the centre which is now shared through their amazing free educational courses has led me to so many life changing decisions!

An absolute must read for anyone considering organic growing, farming or who wants to learn more about how to support, champion and protect local food systems.
