My album launch didn’t just give me songs to post — it gave me live videos. Real ones. Enough to cut a proper demo reel and send it to booking agencies like, “Hey, this is what I sound like and this is why you should probably answer me.”

Out of about 100 agencies, one responded. One became interviews, then a roster spot, then college showcases. After that I started getting booked for college shows, and I still reached out to bars and clubs myself because a roster doesn’t mean you stop doing the work. It just means somebody finally opened the door a little.

This is why I always say your rollout should make more than content. It should make proof. Proof you can perform, proof you can build attention, proof you’re not just another person with a song and a dream.

That’s it for this series. Should I do another? by @devonbraxton

how depression made me even sexier part 3

For my last album, I didn’t want to just upload songs and disappear like nothing happened. The project was about my mental health, so I built every song out into its own experience: a live performance, a long story about how it came to be, a short scripted therapy scene, the original demo, the instrumental, and any other version that made sense.

I wanted people to actually feel the record before they ever pressed play. Because when you’re making something that personal, “here’s the link” is lazy as hell. I wanted context, receipts, and a reason to stay.

Then I took the album cover — which came from an emotion wheel pillow I bought in my therapist’s office — and turned that into merch. Pillows, sweaters, stress balls. I made the whole thing myself. No factory fairy tale, just me turning my brain problems into a weird little ecosystem.

That’s the move: don’t just drop music. Build a world around it.

If you’re making deeply personal music, save this. Part 4 is where I used the live videos from this rollout to get a booking agency and start booking college shows. by @devonbraxton

How I bullied my way into people’s feeds

After years of dropping music to 0 views, I got tired of guessing. That’s when I found Indepreneur — a bunch of musicians who also happen to be marketing nerds, teaching actual strategy instead of “manifest it bro.” When I had money, I’d subscribe. When I didn’t, I rinsed every free thing they posted and treated it like school.

My starting budget was literally one dollar a day on Meta ads. I shot performance clips that felt like me, threw them into Ads Manager, targeted real locations (not bot farms), and let it run. No galaxy‑brain targeting, just small, consistent traffic.

From there I figured out which songs made people stop scrolling, what type of video actually got watched, and who cared enough to replay or click. Then I stopped chasing brand‑new strangers every time and started retargeting the people who had already proved they gave a damn.

No viral moment. No overnight “everything changed” story. Just slow, boring, powerful data turning random people on the internet into an audience I could actually talk to. by @devonbraxton
