Remembering revelation moments is a nice thing to do ~ 1 year later. "Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?" is a famously asked question by God of Job after he had complained to his maker about his miserable fate. A humbling, difficult question.

Cosmology, ecology and spirituality ... seemingly distinct and distant ponderings of the human animal. In this book, Ian McCallum points out, though, that looking back and understanding the history of life and the universe is a praising of the gods ... if you so must believe in the notion of a divine creator.

This little twig, found in a forest in Kwazulu-Natal with Claire Janisch (Founder of Biomimicry South Africa), resembles the thorns of a Ziziphus Mucronata, and are spaced along the length of every branch in pairs. One points forward while the other curves back and inwards. The Nguni African legend says the thorns tell us something about ourselves - we must look ahead to the future ... but we must never forget where we have come from.

Knowing that our very beings are made of 'star stuff', that every multi-cell molecule within and around us was in fact created inside stars of the galaxies (gravity fed fusion reactors). One way of answering the difficult question, then, is that you were there, "linked to the molecular and chemical origins of this planet. In essence, we were all there and still are there. Every hydrogen atom in our bodies originates from the time of the big bang; every atom of iron in our red blood cells is a leftover of supernova explosions; every atom of oxygen and carbon is a gift from our sun." This is a deep revelation and has laid the foundations of a new way of thinking about who and what we are in relationship to the Earth and to Nature. We are intrinsically connected to every single thing around us, on this planet and farther. That we cannot remove ourselves from our surroundings, it's an act of self-denial... a way to cease to exist.

Yesterday was pretty a big day for me. My very first piece of published and printed writing.

It's the result of many months of work with the @eden_to_addo Corridor Initiative, deepening my understanding of their work, and of Corridor Conservation in general. And an emerging realization, worldwide, that repairing fragmented landscapes is one of our greatest strategies for mitigating and adapting to the effects of human-driven climate change.

I feel immensely grateful to Sheree Bega at the @mailandguardian, my Mentor as part of the "Climate Media Lab" Fellowship I'm currently attending with @fossilfreesa. Learning and experiencing the landscapes, intricacies and current shortfalls of the climate media space in South Africa. It is a privilege to be able to contribute to some of it.

Last weekend I had the immense privilege to form part of the @tedxdistrictsix_women team, and support putting 12 phenomenally brave and powerful women on stage to share their courage, wisdom, learnings and stories with the world.

Being part of these volunteer-fuelled TEDx events for over 12 years in Cape Town now, I was granted the responsibility and honoured role of supporting the speakers backstage and in their dressing rooms; making sure they were comfortable, had what they needed, knew where to go and had a "soft landing" once they walked off stage. Some beautiful, raw, vulnerable and supportive moments happen there.

This new, young, ambitious TEDx team in the city was highly impressive in their drive and collaboration. The day ran smoothly and exquisitely, which is only due the pre-work and daring to dream. Well done @tessaleighverster and @clecne, it is exciting to see youthful TEDx energy resonating in Cape Town.

Thank you to @cazinct for looping me into this team. Your skill, attention and thoughtfulness as @thegreatpresentationcoach is awe inspiring and an education to witness. Seeing @zuraidajardine shine after a complex lead-up to her powerful talk was such a joy to see ... goosebumps!

@tedxcapetown's big 15th Anniversary event is planned to happen in Feb '27. I couldn't be more exited with all the TEDx energy flowing from this.

Well, this is a nice update to be able to share. Just over 1 month ago I was able to join in a graduation celebration with my fellow Fellows, as part of Cohort 9 of the phenomenal @climate.base Fellowship.

I joined this Fellowship experience with the view of continuing my professional development, building onto my growing international network, gaining greater understanding and confidence as to the latest climate science and trends, and to step with greater purpose into the "climate industry" (still feels so strange calling it that, caring for our environment should not need to be commodified).

The experience gave me all of that and so much more. I delivered a "mini TED Talk" to the whole community, participated in a Capstone project, spoke directly with industry leaders and gained a truly impressive and impassioned network of people around the world, all working hard to "be part of the solution/s". I've amplified the work I'm able to do with organisations like @eden_to_addo and @greenpopsa.

It was a HARD slog 3 months, with highly stimulating sessions every weeknight from 5 - 11pm (Climatebase is run out of San Francisco), but it was worth every minute. I even managed to graduate with 3 distinctions; recognised as an "Amplifier", "Mobilizer" & "Scholar" within the 300+ Cohort 9 Community.

It is a competitive, expensive program (especially for South Africans), so I'm endlessly thankful that Climatebase saw my potential and invested directly in my career growth with a scholarship and financial aid to be able to attend.

Truly, I can't recommend it more strongly. To quote one presenter when asked about the climate crisis; "I don't work because I'm hopeful, I'm hopeful because I work". We recently held the "End of Cohort Celebration" for the Climatebase Fellowship I've been attending over the past 3 months. It's been an intense slog, with sessions being held every week night from 6 - 11pm in my timezone (as Climatebase is situated in San Francisco), and has often been an overwhelming amount of information to digest. But I loved every minute of it!

The fellowship curriculum itself is a broad, balanced overview of the "Climate Industry" (feels strange to call it that, as it diminishes the inclusive global changes, efforts and challenges we need to take on as a species). More on the curriculum, certifications and even distinctions I received later. What deserves to be acknowledged and celebrated in its own right, now, is what the Co-founder and CEO of Climatebase, Evan Hynes, is saying here, "I believe that community itself is a climate solution. Community is the soil from which so many other climate solutions grow; the company that gets started, the role that gets filled, the project that finds a partner, the idea that becomes sharper because someone else asks a question ... the person who keeps going because someone reminded them that they belong."

The people I have met and collaborated with in this fellowship experience have been some of the most thought-provoking, inspiring, encouraging, caringly-critical and dedicated I've met. All with a mutual goal of wanting to find a place to see their love for this home planet of ours manifest in some positive way. I am grateful for this international community, I now feel a part of, as I grow my experience and career with their support at my side.

Last week, on #EarthDay2026, I had the opportunity to present a "mini TED Talk" to my cohort, as part of the @climate.base Fellowship I'm currently attending.

It was an exciting experience, in which I had only 5 minutes to present on the topic I applied to discuss; "Corridor Conservation - The Future of Conservation?"

I got to explain the concept of this approach that ecologists around the world agree our species needs to adopt, if we're going to curb biodiversity loss (and therefore Climate Change). We need to allow life to flow again, performing the critical ecosystem functions that it does. It featured a very cool graphic developed by Dan Nachka from @nature_org, and examples around the world, like the @y2y_initiative and spoke about the work I'm beginning to do with the inspiring project that is @eden_to_addo, here in South Africa. I also got to end off with a powerful quote from @robinwallkimmerer from her beautiful book, "Braiding Sweetgrass".

A big shout out to @rhianbern for allowing me to use some of her slides in getting my presentation together 🙏😊🌿
