Earlier this month, I hit ten (!!!!!) years of living in Colorado, and I unintentionally/intentionally celebrated the *milestone* with a whirlwind few weeks spent traveling around the state, from Denver to Aspen to Frisco to Steamboat to Breck, for work and for fun, and by doing the most Colorado-y thing I've ever done to date (and might ever do lol): hiking from Crested Butte to Aspen. 🏔️ When I left California, I really had no idea how long I'd stay, if I could even handle a real winter, or how the choice to move would pan out for an Outdoorsy Light™️ city girl like me. Yet! Here we still are, a DECADE later (time flies is an understatement), and that choice continues to surprise me in ways I never imagined. So, consider this a way-too-short and just-cheesy-enough love letter to the adventures, the opportunities, and the magic that Colorado has brought to my life. And, above all else — it's the people that I cherish the most. The friends, chosen family, colleagues, clients, and community who have made this state feel like home since July 5, 2015. ☀️ I miss California (and the ocean 🌊, easy access to which I took for granted for 26 years!) all the time. But, I'm beyond lucky to have my heart in two of my favorite places. 🧡🧡 taken in Colorado by @devonklug

Just in time for its first anniversary, allow me to introduce @scoutwestmarketing, my (!) company specializing in marketing, social media, public relations, and brand strategy (among many other things) for small businesses in the hospitality and lifestyle industries. Years ago, I read a quote from @inagarten (on brand, I'm aware) that has more or less guided my not-so-planned journey to entrepreneurship. "Jump in the pond. A lot of people stand on the side of the pond trying to decide what the pond’s going to be like, but you really don’t know until you jump in the pond. I tend to jump a lot...You’ll figure it out when you’re in the pond." And, that's what the past year after jumping in the pond has been. Figuring it out. Constantly learning. Pivoting and putting my scrappiness to the test. I've felt stressed and unsure, and a little scared and a little lonely. I've cried (a lot) and made plenty of mistakes. But, there's always been a big bright glimmer: I get to do work that I'm genuinely passionate about, alongside some pretty incredible people, every day. More than anything, I'm truly grateful for everyone who has been - and remains - in my corner. The clients and companies who have trusted me with their brilliant brands and given me the opportunity join their teams. The friends, colleagues, and mentors who have listened, kindly shared advice, made introductions, and bought me a coffee/cookie/martini on *those* kind of days. @impact_to_income, who literally coached me to get to this point. @hellopaperlaundry, who designed beautiful branding. From the bottom of my heart, a million times, thank you, all of you. So, anyways! I'm just happy to be here and am pretty stoked to see where this little company will go. A lot of good people and a lot of martinis, plus a few plane rides, car rides, outfit changes, and klutzy moments (iykyk) - and that’s a wrap on the 2022 edition of wedding season. Wow, k, so the past few weeks have been the definition of a whirlwind. I was lucky to travel to beautiful places, celebrated the love of some of my favorite couples with some of the best people, said a final goodbye to my Oma/grandma, wrapped up my chapter @dotcomtherapy, had a blast pouring mezcal and hanging with friends both old and new @steamboatfoodwinefestival, and took *the big official leap* back into working in the industry I love so much. After all that, I’d try to say ‘don’t try to find me in October, because I’ll be hiding and hibernating’, but - if you know me, that’d be a lie 🤠 by @devonklug

Life is short, and we know it, but also often forget as we get caught up in the everyday, the ‘hustle’, the ebbs and flows, until we - and those we love - are poignantly reminded of it in unexpected ways. So, pocket the reminder and saddle up: I hope we all take the leap, book the metaphorical (or literal) trip to Italy, keep the good people close, mark the moments in which we feel truly happy, order another spritz to linger at the bar longer, eat the pasta (and the pizza and the dessert), and overall, choose joy and just LIVE because we can.
