I scrolled to the bottom of my photo collection today and found the oldest photo I've let myself keep (second photo). It's of me just about 10 years ago at a college Halloween party— I dressed as a Ceilings fan 😉 It was also around the the first time I transitioned. It was stressful and there wasnt a big push for trans rights quite yet. All my friends were 'accepting' but nobody had any reference points and neither did I. I mostly wore my partner's old clothes at the time and had no idea how to dress myself.

That period didn't last long. From memory it couldn't have been more than six months. I had felt like such a failure and embarrassment that I detransitioned for about 7 years (you can see me retreating in the next few photos). Who knows what I would've been like if I had just stuck to it the first time.

To be honest, I don't think I'm everything younger me hoped for. But I'm still changing and moving forward. Maybe, before too long, I'll get there. And I don't look too bad nowadays, right? 😘 by @devotion.phl
