If you have had a consult, care, or know us at all you know these tenants of care are what we live and breathe.

There is a biological process within childbirth that is meant to be respected and supported…with watchful wisdom. In the animal world, lions don’t get cervical exams, antelopes don’t take childbirth classes, and no one tells the chimp what position to birth. But also mother nature can be cruel and even normal, natural, physiological events still cause harm. You don’t need a midwife until you need a midwife, and we only step in when nature shifts off course. Your midwives carry all of the same care techniques for managing complications as your hospital such as neonatal resuscitation tools, postpartum hemorrhage meds, IV fluids, and more. BUT the discernment of when to use these tools is KEY… it’s the midwifery model of care.

The midwifery model of care boasts the
• ⬆️HIGHEST rates of birth satisfaction, breastfeeding, skin to skin, Motherbaby bonding, fathers and partner involvement…
• ⬇️ LOWEST rate of cesarean, vacuum or forceps, episiotomy, epidural, induction, NICU stays…

This doesn’t mean we are anti-hospital. In fact we LOVE our inter-professional collaborative providers with Ochsner and LCMC for when we need a little bit more.

We love offering our clients home birth but it’s also crucial to remember that you will also want trained midwives for your daughters or daughter in laws! Training midwives today means having midwives for generations to come.

Our students are part of the national board certifying program for Certified Professional Midwives and preparing to practice in all states of America. You will get the chance to meet each student throughout prenatals and the opportunity to choose how involved you want students to be!

Comment below if you are expecting in 2027 and want to be a part of making more midwives too! If you’re open to having a primary student in attendance with your licensed midwife, you might qualify for a special discount starting 2027 🙏

On the other side of these candles a mother shifted from bliss to power. 🙏 a “slow” October braces us for a busy November.

👶 Largest babe was 9.0lb and smallest 5.5lb
💦 2 waterbirths and 1 🛌 “land” birth
🕰️ Longest labor was 8.5hrs and shortest was 2.5hrs
🧡 No tears, no hemorrhages, and no resuscitations

In the midwifery community we call these 🧈 births 🤓 although I’ve always been pretty against that term cause I’m sure the mothers wouldn’t use the same language 🤨

Student Emma is on her final countdown with less than 5 births until she sits for her boards, graduates school, and becomes Louisiana’s next home birth midwife. DM if you’re interested in helping make more midwives!
