Trying something different in 2025…

Shoutout to @bookdragoncrystal and @bookish.brebre for this idea! This is kind of an amalgamation of the way they do this, plus some of my own little changes!

At the end of 2024, I went through all my physical books and made a spreadsheet of the ones I haven’t read. The goal being to read as many as I can in 2025, but with a twist. My love language is gift giving so when I saw Crystal and Bre had their books wrapped I decided to do the same and number them! When I need help picking a book to read, I’ll use a random number generator to pick the one I want, and when I open it up (because I don’t have a great memory lol) it’ll be a surprise what I get to read.

Some other notes:
• I have no shame in my DNF game. If I’m not digging it, on to the next, and I may or may not rewrap it and try again.
• I also have a spreadsheet sorted by genre, so if I’m feeling one particular genre, I can just do a number generator for that column.
• Similarly, if I don’t feel like being surprised and just want to read a specific book, I can find it on the spreadsheet and I still get to open a lil gift.
• I do have some unread books I don’t have wrapped, those are mostly ones I don’t want to feel pressured to read (mostly parenting books) or ones I borrowed from friends!

I can’t wait to see which book I pick first! 👀 by @devreighreads

If you’re a major Freida fan please don’t hate me for this but this book was……… not great lol.

I KNOW every single time I pick up a Freida book that at one point or another I’m gonna say to myself “fire this editor” but I keep picking up her books because the plots are just crazy enough to keep me intrigued. But this one in particular was real bad lol. First of all, the plot feels really poorly constructed. It moves quickly, but the cost of that is that the characters and their stories don’t have much depth, and the way they come to conclusions makes no sense. Speaking of which, these characters are genuinely so dumb. But the thing that really got me was the extremely odd inner thoughts of the characters. Example: “of course, what kind of person doesn’t keep a roll of duct tape in their pantry? I’m not a housewife from Beverly Hills.” Really, truly, and genuinely, what the fuck does that mean. 😭😭😭😭😭

Anyway. Did I love this book? Absolutely not. Will I read another Freida, though. Probably, I’m apparently a masochist. by @devreighreads

I feel like I really fell out of love with reading over the past year or so and I gotta be so real, I completely blame bookstagram. Something I’ve loved to do since I was 5 became a chore with optimal posting times, trending reels and apparently book reviews not being favored? On bookstagram???? So anyway I’m still here, finally getting back into a reading groove and posting a pic at a non-optimal posting time just to show everyone I started Big Little Lies while cooking dinner (the line for Big Little Truths at the library is long but I can’t underestimate it.)

Ok, I get the hype. And yes I did immediately buy the next book (on bookshop.org of course 💁🏼‍♀️)

Unless YOU’VE been living in a dungeon, you probably know Dungeon Crawler Carl is popping off right now, and honestly? For good reason. I went into this completely blind. I just knew a lot of people I trusted loved this book, and I think by, like, page 10? I was INVESTED. It’s such a fun and unique plot that reminded me of a mix of Dungeons and Dragons, Labyrinth, and The Hunger Games, all mixed in one. A super fun read, can’t wait to continue the series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ by @devreighreads

Another day, another TBR. Kinda.

I’m in the process of moving which means packing up my books (😭). But we aren’t planning on moving out until June at the earliest, and who knows how many books a girl can read before then!!!

So while I packed things up I pulled out a couple that I thought I was MOST likely to grab if I wanted to read before then.

Any bets on whether or not I open the boxes I pack anyway to find a completely different book? 🙈 by @devreighreads

I have emerged from the depths of the Worst Reading Slump Ever and I am completely unsurprised that the one who brought me out was the one and only @fancyeliza.

Penance by Eliza Clark was my fav read of 2024 - I honestly still think about it all the time. I absolutely devoured the book; her writing is fantastic and the story is so unique and introspective, so of course I snagged up her collection of short stories immediately. The King was hands down my fav but truly every single story hit.

We’re so back baby, and I’ve got Boy Parts on deck of the slump starts to creep back in! by @devreighreads

Another year, another reading wrap up. Not as impressive as past years but we’re working on getting back to making reading a hobby instead of a task. 🤷🏼‍♀️ by @devreighreads

Heyyyy how yall doing 👀 swipe to see me emerging from the infant trenches to rejoin bookstagram.

I’ve been reading and lurking but clearly haven’t been posting and felt like I should give yall a wrapped reading update!

First of all, I’m still going strong on my self imposed book buying ban. I still haven’t bought a single book this year (for myself - I can never say no to buying em for my kids!)

I’ve picked and unwrapped 4 books from my shelf so far. Of those 4, I’ve DNF’ed 2 🙈 (A LITTLE HOPE and SACRIFICIAL ANIMALS,) finished 1 and donated it (LITTLE HEAVEN) and finished 1 and loved it so much I put it back on my shelf to keep (THE CHRISTIE AFFAIR.)

I just picked out and unwrapped OUTLANDER which is very intimidating (lol) but I’m loving the writing style so far!

I’m really enjoying this method of picking and reading books, and while I would rather step on legos barefoot than re-wrap all of them, I highly recommend giving it a shot to anyone who’s thinking of doing the same! taken in Minneapolis, Minnesota by @devreighreads

• Last • Now • Next (Library Version) •

Doing things a little different this time - rather than the single last book I read, I’m gonna give some mini reviews of the last library books I read and just returned!

BEDFELLOW ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Another win for the /NoSleep fans! This is a weird, quick psychological horror. I’d never read anything by this author but he’s a great author and I’ll definitely check out more of his stuff.

THE WOMAN IN CABIN 10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ruth Ware is VERY hit or miss for me and unfortunately this one was a miss. The main character was just… the worst lol. And I felt like it didn’t get interesting til the end. I DID really like the way it all tied up though.

IN A DARK DARK WOOD ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Now THIS Ruth Ware was a hit. I was invested from the beginning and even though I kind of knew who was behind things, I didn’t feel disappointed by the reveal. It was still perfectly twisty and creepy.

MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Riley Sager does it for me every time. His writing is just SO atmospheric and I really enjoy the unique aspects of the plots he comes up with.

So what am I reading from the library now?
I’m just about finished with ALL BETTER NOW and I’m also taking my time with the ebook version of NORTHANGER ABBEY.

What’s up next?
Super excited to delve into another TJ Klune with THE BONES BENEATH MY SKIN! I literally haven’t looked at a word of the synopsis but I trust that I’ll love his books as I always do!

What book should I request from the library next? 🤔 taken in Minneapolis, Minnesota by @devreighreads
