Where freedom began.
Dewey's eyes widen in quiet astonishment., his eyelashes almost becoming one with the delicate wings before him, as though for a fleeting moment child and dragonfly belong in the same world.
In that silent moment a friendship begins.

This three metres painting was created over three months in the remarkable stillness of Villa Pitiana near Vignacce during the months of lockdown,
While much of the world lived with restriction and uncertainty, the studio became a place of silence, reflection and imagination. Beyond it's walls, life had paused.
Yet within them a dragonfly continued to fly.
Great size tells the story of a tiny insect.
Silence gives birth to movement.
Restriction reveals freedom.
Even the persimmon tree within it's orange fruit punctuates an otherwise monochrome palette bringing colour, warmth and hope.
The persimmon is both bitter and sweet much like those strange months of isolation.
There was hardship and loss yet unexpected moments of gratitute, stillness and discovery.
In the innocence of a child's gaze we are reminded that discovery and wonder was never cancelled.

Tale of the tabernacolo.

Beyond the face.
There is something deeply satisfying about being able to put a face to a name.
Some faces tell a story, others become one.
Holy, Spiritual, and almost unsettling, this face of San Guiseppe seems to possess a life far greater than the stone upon which it is painted.
It drew me in. The story behind it held me there.
The image was originally found within a 'tabernacolo', one of Italy's roadside shrines. We often speak of things being 'set in stone' as though permanence is guaranteed, yet this orignal image reminds us that even stone bears the scars of time.
Recognising it's significance, the local 'Sindaco' commisioned Dewi to reproduce the image.
Ancient in appearance and reminiscent of the Renaissance a new face emerged.
The original face may have vanished but the spirit of the image remains. The painting was eventually aquired by the owner of Villa Pitiana and placed in the church of the Villa, safe from the storms that once threatened it's existence.
The face changed.
Something special endured.
Safe.
Admired
Alive.

' The French Job ! '

It was a week before Christmas in the Winter of 1969 when I saw the 'The Italian Job' for the first time.
Sitting in my short trousers in a cold hall in my school, Ysgol Maes Garmon, Yr Wyddgrug.
It was the film that sparked my lifetime passion for driving and drawing.

Music by Matt Monro in the iconic opening scene with the Lamborghini Miura.

This black 1275 reminds me of those halcyon days in Reggello when I drove a white one.
Perfect for these narrow dusty Charente roads.
Wonderful few weeks here on a motorbike but we needed a car for the winter months. taken in Charente by @dewitudur57

'Doves above La Barche'

 Bilingual narrative by @sianj168

Wedi 'i osod yn erbyn lliwiau godidog y tir, mae'r olygfa'n ymddangos mor fyw ag erioed.
Ni ellir 'gweld' yr adeilad hwn unwaith yn unig, mae 'na symudiad hudolus newydd yn perthyn iddo na ellir ei anwybyddu.
Uwch ei ben, dwy golomen yn ein
hatgoffa o ffyddlondeb a'r reddf i ddychwelyd adra tra'n cario'r addewid o ddechreuad newydd.

Set against the rich, luminous colours of the alluvial land, this familiar scene seems to breathe with movement and memory.
It reveals another hidden wonder, a quiet yet magical perspective.
Two white doves deepening the feeling of devotion, return of new beginnings. I find myself wondering how one might feel to stand before it for the first time, to 'see' the place, carrying in our hearts all the emotions and imagined memories already given to us.

Returned home a few minutes before 10 last night and stood at the back of our home with a glass of Pineau.
Luckily, I had my phone with me to capture a view of the Space X Falcon rocket that was launched at Cape Canaveral yesterday.
The first video as it appears in the distance and the second is a closer shot.
Probably a once in a lifetime glimpse as it moves over our home in the Charente.
