Our love language is a little different. 🐄💕

To be fair, we’re surrounded by people who know a thing or two about cows. The dairy farm families who own DFA spend their days making sure their herds are healthy, comfortable, and well cared for.

There’s tough. And then there’s rural-woman tough.

The kind built through early mornings, unpredictable days, caring for animals, raising families, running businesses, solving problems, and showing up again tomorrow to do it all over.

Women throughout agriculture help keep farms moving, communities strong, and food on tables.

“As a dairy farmer and mother of a young girl, I want everyone to see that women belong in agriculture and have something valuable to bring to the table,” says Annaliese Wegner (@modfarmchick), a DFA farmer-owner in Ettrick, Wisc. “It’s time to view ‘like a girl’ as a compliment. I hope young girls and women feel proud of their abilities, and curious about where those abilities could take them.”

On International Day of Rural Women, we’re proud to recognize women throughout agriculture, including DFA farmer-owners who put that strength to work every day for their families, farms, and communities.

Support your local farm families.

National Farmers Day was earlier this week, but supporting farm families doesn’t have to stop there.

One way to show your support is by choosing products from DFA’s farmer-owned brands. When you do, you’re supporting family dairy farmers, not outside shareholders.

Those brands help create more opportunities for farmer-owners’ milk, from new markets to new dairy products that reach families across the country and around the world.

That’s the Cooperative difference. The people producing the milk have a stake in the business behind it. by @dfamilk

Thank you, dairy farmers.

The responsibility that comes with being a dairy farmer is one most people will never carry.

On #NationalFarmersDay, we celebrate the dairy farmers who own DFA and the generations of farm families devoted to producing a food that nourishes families, fuels active lives, and brings people together every day.

Worth the extra zoom, right? 👀

A newborn calf can weigh anywhere from 60 to 100 pounds.

What you can’t see from a distance is everything that happens after it’s born.

Those first hours are important. Dairy farmers closely monitor newborn calves, help keep them comfortable, and provide colostrum, which provides essential nutrients and antibodies early in life.

It’s a lot of care packed into a very short amount of time.

Sometimes the most interesting part of a photo isn’t what you notice first. 😉 by @dfamilk

For more than 35 years, Airabelle has been bringing smiles to the crowds at the @balloonfiesta. This year was no exception, as the beloved @creamlanddairyco cow balloon once again soared above Albuquerque during “The Scenic Route,” a celebration marking 100 years of Route 66.

Airabelle isn’t just a balloon. She’s a five-time People’s Choice Favorite Special Shape and part of a New Mexico tradition that brings together families, visitors, and communities from across the state. This year, she also took flight with a new themed Creamland logo created especially for the celebration.

Getting the 120-foot-long, 910-pound Airabelle into the air takes at least 16 crew members, favorable wind conditions, and plenty of teamwork.

Proudly representing Creamland, a DFA farmer-owned brand and the Fiesta’s official dairy sponsor, she serves as a high-flying reminder of the dairy farm families who help nourish New Mexico communities every day. by @dfamilk

We better hurry before the farmer finds out. Let’s go!

Answers to “Get out of there!” and “Good boy!” Also, Ben. Wearing a red collar and never without his favorite rope toy.

Ben is always trying to sneak a bite while the farmer is mixing up the cow feed.

Each group of cows has different nutritional needs, so they each get a special batch, mixed to perfection right here in the feed center.

This is where the farmer milks the cows three times every day, in other words, it’s a hoppin’ place.

This is where the cows get clean bedding, fresh water, and feed throughout the day. (They also poop in here, hence the smell, and all that fresh bedding).

The cow barn is equipped with temperature controls that automatically lower the curtains, and turn on fans and sprinklers depending on the weather. We hang out here on hot days, but I’m not seeing any sign of Ben.

Maybe we should check out the shop ...

Feeding cows takes a lot of equipment. This is where the farmer maintains the equipment used to grow and harvest feed and make plans for each field. And clearly it’s where Ben comes to take a load off!

You got to learn about the places that help care for cows every day, too! by @dfamilk

“Cow hotels” 🛎️🐄

At least, that’s a real entry in the Brown family’s dictionary 😂

Inspired by the dictionary trend, we asked #DFAMilk farmer-owners Jamie and Lance Brown and their family to share some of the words and nicknames they use around the farm.

What word or phrase belongs in your family or farm dictionary? by @dfamilk

New family activity unlocked 😂

#DFACreator Brad Bosch, farm manager at Bosch Dairy Farms, had his kids run backward, reversed the footage, and somehow made it look pretty convincing.

Fresh sheets day hits different. ✨

The average American reportedly changes their sheets about every 24 days.

Meanwhile, at @lucky7dairy, a #DFAMilk family-owned farm in Michigan, cows get fresh bedding every week, a little rake-and-fluff twice a week, and any dirty spots scooped out three times a day while they’re in the milking parlor.

And if you’ve ever climbed into a freshly made bed, you probably understand this reaction. 😂 by @dfamilk

Let them judge. 🐄

Some mornings run on routine. Others run on coffee. ☕🥛

For #NationalCoffeeDay, DFA farmer-owner Stacy Rethman (@dairyfarmer.stacy ) is bringing a little extra energy to the cow pen. Her coworkers? Not impressed.

We see those looks, ladies. But when the coffee is good, sometimes you just have to dance it out.

And for us, a great cup always leaves room for a splash of milk or cream from dairy farm families.

So, what’s going in your coffee? by @dfamilk
