We’ve got some new additions to the neighborhood!🐾🐾

Meet the two little coyote pups. We spotted the first one about two weeks ago, and the second made its debut about a week later. This is the first time our critter cams captured both pups out exploring together with one of their parents.

Fun Fact: Both coyote parents help raise their pups. Mom and dad work together as a devoted team to feed, protect, and teach their young the skills they’ll need to survive.

Mr or Mrs Cooper’s Hawk wanted me to put the pool cover back on but it found another good spot instead for now.
You think these guys are beginning to get a bit too comfy here?… Our dogs sure do think so.

These Cooper’s Hawks live behind us in a huge tree, I see and hear them every day. We spotted this one taking a morning splash bath but it took a few seconds before I noticed the second one. I’ve never seen them both together so this was a special visit. Come back anytime guys just don’t pee in the pool.

I just let our dogs out to do their thing when I walked to the side of the house to get the pooper scooper and on my way back this little critter was cruising through the backyard then through the chicken wire toward critter highway. When I walked by the second time it picked up its head which caught my attention. I immediately got the dogs safely back in the house then I just continued watching it.
Turns out this beauty is a young and very healthy looking Western Diamondback Rattlesnake. It wasn’t aggressive at all so I just let it do its snaky snake thing.
Honestly, after 10 years with no snake sightings, we were due for a reminder from nature.
I guess with this early summer-like weather our neighborhood is seeing a lot more than usual so this was an eye opener for sure and a good reminder to be much more vigilant especially with our pups.

We’ve definitely seen our fair share of critters over the years but this one really stumped me.

Last night we spotted a 3 legged coyote on our critter cams so I did a little digging and found this info…

Three-legged coyotes, often nicknamed “Tripod,” are frequently observed wild coyotes that have adapted to life with a missing limb, usually due to accidents with vehicles or traps. These resilient animals are known for their ability to hunt, travel, and thrive despite their disability, often becoming local legends in areas like Joshua Tree National Park.

Adaptation: They frequently adjust their gait and, in some cases, may appear to have a more pronounced limp only when humans are nearby, possibly adapting their behavior to seek handouts.🤔

Wildlife Impact: While these coyotes are highly adapted, their fame can sometimes lead to dangerous habituation, where they become too comfortable with humans. 🤦‍♂️

Important Considerations:
🚫Do Not Feed: Experts emphasize not feeding these animals, as they are capable of hunting and should remain wild.

Three-legged coyotes represent a fascinating example of wildlife adaptability and the ability to thrive in harsh environments despite significant physical challenges.👍

This one seems to be healthy and living its life just fine so that was good to see.

Spotted another tailless raccoon out here on #critterhighway a few nights ago. It climbed up and down the fence alright and seems to be doing just fine. I sure hope humans aren’t harming these little rascals. by @dfill23

The Coyotes are looking extra healthy lately. Hope everyone’s keeping their pets safe, because these beauties are out day and night. They’re clearly thriving, and when coyotes roam in daylight it usually means they’re comfortable and finding plenty to eat. Gorgeous animals, but keep your pets close by.

Our neighborhood bobcats are probably the most chill critters around. I’ve been within 15 feet of them a couple times and they stop, look at me and just walk on by. When I realize I’m too close I always give them the right of way and I never intentionally try to get close. by @dfill23
