Last week’s post was about a ‘39 Oldsmobile that was dressed up to look like a Willys drag strip racer… well, this week at the Pismo Derelicts, we got an actual ‘41 Willys built for the drag strip! I got to speak with the builder that built the car 30 years ago and was able to keep track of ownership all these years until he was in a position to purchase the car for himself! It has a full cage inside the cabin, 461cid V8 with a blower and he estimates that it is putting out 1200hp to those huge rear tires! It burns alcohol in lieu of gasoline and he’s guessing it gets about 1 mile per gallon! Needless to say, he does go on long trips with a 12 gallon tank! This thing is purpose-built and is a serious macho-machine! At the Pismo Derelicts today, was this 1939 Oldsmobile coupe with a modern V8 and automatic transmission to go with custom details that drastically change the appearance. This is not a particularly popular manufacturer (compared to the ‘39 Ford) or year of manufacture for Oldsmobile (they may have peaked in the 50s), however, we often work with what we are given. The owner of this custom hot rod chose to alter the entire front face of the car by Frenching modern headlights in lieu of the classic bucket style and changing the vertical grill into 1942 Willys style grill. The rear license plate was also Frenched into the deck lid while the tail lights were streamlined with some that were closer to the body of the car. The interior was modernized with new gages and aluminum bright work to go with modern seats with headrests. Jaguar built the XK-E (E-Type) between 1961 and 1975 and is considered one of the most beautiful automobiles ever built for the mass market. It was initially built with a 3.8 liter inline 6-cylinder (series 1) and made improvements and changes for the series 2 which included glass over the headlights, wrap-around bumpers, larger turn lights and headrests for the seats- all prompted by the US market. This 1965 has the bigger 4.2 Liter 6-cylinder DOHC motor underneath its beautifully sculpted bonnet. Who can’t see themselves motoring through the countryside behind the oversized wheel, top down, hair dancing in the wind? We wrapped up our Summer basketball season with a fun hike in Pismo Preserves. It was a beautiful day to commune with nature and get some exercise. Some of the girls had already participated in a club basketball practice and met me for a hike anyway! I applaud everyone on the team for a great Summer Season and some memorable moments. We hiked just over 2 miles over hills, through oak trees and saw some deer at the end. They insisted on running through the middle of the hike and I had to chase them down!! I am already looking forward to next season and getting together with this fun and talented group of young ladies! #pismopreserve #nature #aggb #hike by @dfloyd805

For 1937, Ford featured new, dynamic and streamlined design for their automobiles! This was not the case for the trucks and vans, however. Ford still had some leftover 1936 sheet metal to deal with. The solution was to utilize as much as they could in the design of the trucks and delivery vans. Sure, it made the commercial vehicles look outdated but, as long as the products delivered the goods, the public could seemingly care less! This particular van has been up-rated to 4-wheel drive! The rear van box is no longer filled with products heading to market as it is lined with nice upholstery and a 3-inch thick padding on the bottom! The original running gear has been replaced with a durable and easily maintained 350cid V8 and automatic transmission.
