Definitely not your average travel snack! 🦔🚫

CBP Agriculture Specialists and our partners at the CDC experienced a uniquely "pointy" inspection at O’Hare International Airport when a traveler arriving on a flight from Angola declared an unexpected item: a 2.6 kg brush-tailed porcupine carcass!

While the traveler declared the item, CDC Officer confirmed it was an African rodent. Because these items are strictly regulated under Title 42 to protect human health and prevent the spread of diseases, the specimen was safely seized, double-bagged, stored under biosafety protocols, and processed for destruction.

Moral of the story? Leave unauthorized meats, wildlife, and animal products off your packing list! 🧳❌

Through targeted trade enforcement, the Base Metals Center successfully recovered $188,303.37 in duties and revenue!

A recent review revealed that an importer misclassified imported copper tubes from Thailand as cast iron pipe fittings in an attempt to circumvent Section 232 duties. Thanks to the meticulous work of our trade enforcement specialists, the entries were corrected, ensuring proper duties are collected and compliance is enforced.

CBP officers in Indianapolis recently intercepted two shipments containing nine counterfeit luxury watches, protecting consumers and the U.S. economy from intellectual property theft.

If authentic, the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of these items would have totaled a staggering $736,206.14.

The seizure included: 🔹 Rolex: Daytona, GMT Master II, and Gold Day-Date models 🔹 Cartier: Dumont and Santos de Cartier models

CBP remains committed to maintaining a level playing field for domestic industries.
Our import specialists recently conducted a review of seamless U-tube imports from Italy that were being misclassified to avoid Section 232 duties. While the importer argued the products should be classified as machinery parts, our investigation confirmed that in their condition at the time of import, these items are properly classified as steel tubes.
CBP has successfully rate-advanced these entries to ensure the correct duties are paid and to prevent the circumvention of trade laws. Protecting the integrity of our trade system is a top priority.
