Waking up this morning to an interesting post from the Time Capsules of Monroe County Michigan group we just had to share! MONROE HIGH SCHOOL TUMBLING - Very few of us knew what was meant by a tumbling team for most of us thought that tumbling meant clumsiness, and we really didn't think that we needed a team to display that. But we were pleasantly surprised at the 1924 "tumbling team" which made its initial appearance at the Family Theatre on February 29, as part of the High School Frolic. This part of the program consisted of work on mats, on parallel bars, and building pyramids. The following boys took part: George Moore, Carroll Leedy, Forrest Leedy, Leo Snyder, Ralph Hundley, Cletus Lajiness, Harry Shenk, Fred Lemerand and Albert Wagner. The boys are deserving of great praise for the degree of perfection with which they performed their stunts. After this performance, interest lagged in the sport until finally only three faithfuls remained. They were Leo Snyder, Ralph Hundley and Forrest Leedy. On March 19, Coach Hellenberg took the triumvirate up to Ypsilanti to represent Monroe in competition with Ann Arbor, Pontiac, Detroit Eastern, Ypsilanti Central, and Birmingham. Against these formidable rivals Monroe returned home bearing third honors. Now we know what a tumbling team is, and we are still marveling at the grace and dexterity of our boys. by @dg.south
