A fallen leaf may be doing far more than we realise 🍁

Jean Robson follows the connections between trees, rivers and the life supported by both. Her photographs invite us to look again at natural imperfections, decaying leaves and the ways woodland and waterways depend upon one another.

Few birds are woven into the changing seasons quite like the swallow 🐦

Cherished as lucky neighbours and bringers of joy, swallows have long inspired stories of prosperity, mystery and the unseen world. As chattering flocks gather on telephone lines, their presence marks the fading light, the arrival of autumn and the passage of time.

Discover why swallows are so special in the October issue of Dumfries & Galloway Life, and subscribe today to never miss an issue.
