Meet this week’s Sunday List curator: @_www.sarith.art_ , a full-time PhD student who somehow also finds time to spin decks, make films, AND curate for her South Asian creative collective @dhaga______ (cause who needs sleep right?). Through Dhaga, she’s putting her creative energy to good use, reimagining what inclusivity in the arts can look and feel like for South Asian creatives and dreamers – and we can’t get enough. From exhibitions and art fairs to craft workshops, and more, it’s all about creating a space for genuine connection at a time when so many third spaces are disappearing. If that sounds like your vibe, swipe to discover Sarith’s current culture faves – and maybe add the next Dhaga event to your calendar while you’re at it. by @dhaga______
Exploring the power of indigenous ancestral land and the strength of resistance through community ⛰️ Tellurian Drama is a short film by @riarrr , exploring colonial history, indigenous ancestral power, and geoengineering through the story of Radio Malabar in West Java, Indonesia. Amussu is a documentary film set in Imider, a small Amazigh community in southeastern Morocco, directed and written by Nadir Bouhmouch. In 2011, the community shut down a major water pipeline to halt the impact of Africa’s largest silver mine. The film chronicles the villagers’ eight-year peaceful resistance as they transform their protest camp into a small solar-powered village, continuing to resist through songs, poetry, theatre, weekly assemblies, and a local film festival. link to tickets in bio 🪴 curated and introduced by @melizandreii as part of ‘Whose Land? Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese’s film explores grief, resistance, and the fight to preserve ancestral land in Lesotho. Mantoa, an 80-year-old widow is preparing for her own funeral while grappling with the deaths of her husband and children. Her village faces forced resettlement due to the construction of a dam, threatening to erase her homeland and ancestral burial grounds. Confronted with this existential threat, Mantoa finds renewed purpose and becomes a symbol of resistance, mobilising her community to fight for their land and heritage. 🌟PRESENTING🌟 “Whose Land? Whose Lens?” - a new season of films coming to @genesiscinema discussing the protection of land and therefore peoples through the lens of slow cinema 🌿 link to tickets in bio !! This is a programme of filmmakers who engage with landscapes as elements that shape memory, identity, history, and cultural belonging. Here land carries memory, shapes narrative, and exists in dialogue with the people it holds on screen. curated by @melizandreii 🪷Wed 18 Nov - This Is Not a Burial, It’s a Resurrection dir. “I’m sorry, I kicked it by mistake” is an 1-2 hour Creative Writing workshop about intimacy, gossip, boundaries and belonging. We will activate the hanging textile installation ‘Othered Dreams’, as part of Dhaga’s exhibition: (be)longing. This workshop speaks to the somatics of language, the physical feeling that bubbles in your gut, as you spill a secret, lie to protect someone, or remember things you never expected to hear. Through transcription exercises, movement games, and collective readings — we’ll juggle with language, shake it, soften it, until it resembles something closer to how words land. Participants can write in any language they desire, the workshop will be held mostly in English. Priority for Queer South Asian & QTIPOC people. 14th of August, Friday 2-4pm SE15 3SN London ༉‧₊˚. rsvp today 💌 by @dhaga______
