We celebrated my promotion from 5th grade by going to The Joan at @cygnettheatre and watching The SpongeBob SquarePants Musical! It was so much fun. I loved seeing so many friends and people I admire perform and making the audience laugh (and it was an enthusiastic audience). There were some fun surprises in the show too, like the pirates, who were so funny! 🏴‍☠️ The dance numbers were big and so well done. And Patrick was perfectly pink with the best costume, in my opinion. And of course, the villains! The funniest and cutest villains around, Plankton and Karen. They’re villains you can’t help but love. Last night was so fun! Congratulations to the cast and crew, and have a great run!

Thank you to old friends and new friends who I got to work with in this concert reading of Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along this week at @sandiegomusicaltheatre! And thank you to friends and family who came to see the show. This was a really unique production, and I felt really special to get to be a part of it. Thank you, @jonnysangster and @beeslom for this opportunity! I loved playing Frank Jr. alongside @jakebrad4, @katiesapper, @gerilynbrault, @drewbrad4, and all these talented artists. Thank you, @thejasonguffey for letting me be your sidekick for the week. And always, thank you @shirley.johnston for being the best stage manager ever and one of the best humans around! by @dhani_solo

I’m really excited about Merrily We Roll Along at @sandiegomusicaltheatre, but you only have two days to come and watch! I had a lot of fun in rehearsal last night because it reminded me how each project I work on is so different, and this one is no exception. It was really fun watching some really talented artists working together to create magic in such a short amount of time.

Happy World Theater Day! From classroom plays to youth productions to professional and regional stages, we’re so grateful for the role theater has played in our children’s lives and in our family’s story.

It’s been a space for creativity, a voice for change, and a refuge when we’ve needed it most. Along the way, we’ve found more than collaborators—we’ve found family, mentors, and people who have walked with us through both our hardest moments and our greatest joys.

To the directors, producers, and teachers who have poured into our kids—thank you. You’ve helped shape not just artists, but compassionate, grounded human beings who know that kindness, integrity, and love matter more than the next role. A free Wednesday evening for the kids meant catching a different grumpy fellow than usual… and what a treat it was to finally make it to Cygnet’s new home for the first time! Not only does our family love Cygnet’s rendition of A Christmas Carol, but we were also so blown away by the new space. It’s beautiful! Go see the show… it’s a classic so well told.

Dhani also loved seeing the ad for the upcoming show he’ll be in, Somewhere Over the Border (opens in February at @cygnettheatre). This one will tug at your heartstrings. It’s relevant, but then again, it always has been. by @dhani_solo

One more throwback to November 29, 2023, on the last night my little guy was 8 years old. He was at rehearsals for El Milagro del Recuerdo, and they surprised him by singing Las Mañanitas, in a way that only a mix of opera and mariachi singers can! This moment is instilled in my brain—a tiny human, in a huge theater, surrounded by some powerful opera voices. There is something so tender in this video to me, especially seeing him standing next to librettist and theatre director, Leonard Foglia. I admire any director who works so patiently and warmly with children. I’m grateful for many wonderful moments this little guy has had—they haven’t all been grand; he’s struggled, a lot, but it’s also why I’m so grateful for art and theater, and the spaces that have allowed him to be creative and joyful and to share his heart and who he is. Thank you to everyone who has shared in his life and who has contributed to his journey! by @dhani_solo

We’ve all waited so long for this; it’s hard to believe that today finally arrived. We threw a family mini-watch party as soon as Dhani got home from Grinch (poor Amani had to call in sick).
