POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Last week, life got bumpy, and frustration tagged along. But dealing with those bumps taught me to turn challenges into lessons. I chose resilience, courage, and happiness, working out my emotional muscles for growth. When life tests you, remember, it’s not the challenge, but how you respond that defines the journey.

The workaround becomes "the way we do it."

The extra step becomes normal. Nobody sees it anymore. Except the person you hired last month.

Thursday, I'm breaking down how to ask them before they stop seeing it too.

Day one: flawless. Day two: no laptop, no manager.

Inside: where onboarding actually breaks, the one email Google sends its managers the Sunday before a new hire starts, and the five-item checklist that makes day one ready.

Ready is respect.

Laptop's not ready. No badge. Manager's in meetings till 11. "We'll get you set up later."

Nobody meant anything by it. Doesn't matter. Day one tells people who you are.

Thursday I'm breaking down where onboarding actually breaks, and the five-item check that fixes it.

I've talked plenty of clients out of buying software. One time I didn't, and I still think about it.

Before I get to that, here's what I believe about running a business.

I believe your business is supposed to give you a life. Most founders started out chasing more freedom. Somewhere along the way they ended up checking their phone at every dinner and calling it success. Usually that means something underneath never got built.
I believe the fix is rarely a new tool.

A while back I had a client, about eight people, who was sure they needed project management software. Their spreadsheet was manual, but for eight people it did the job, and I told them so. They kept asking, and eventually I gave in. Three or four months later, it had turned into a nightmare of complexity the business never needed, and we went back to the spreadsheet. I should've held my ground.

I believe you should get to watch someone work before you pay them. Most consultants in my line of work want a signature first. That never sat right with me, and it's the reason I'm doing The Teardown.

I believe in telling founders the truth, even when it costs me the job. Some of them don't need me. When that's the case, I hand them the plan and let them run with it.

A lot of this goes back to the military. You take care of the people next to you, and you do what you said you'd do. Business isn't much different.

On October 21 at noon Central, I'm tearing down a real system live. Send me a DM, and I'll get you the link.

What's a tool you bought for your business that you ended up not needing? by @dhvandyke27

There's a question I ask almost every founder I meet. If you disappeared for 60 days, phone off and no email, what would break first?

Most people laugh. Then they get quiet, because they already know the answer.

I work with founder-led companies, usually between $1 million and $50 million in revenue, where the owner is great at the work and has slowly become the thing holding the whole business up. Nobody plans it that way. The company just grew faster than the systems did.

I start with a diagnostic that looks at three areas. Decision is about who can make which calls without you. Delivery is whether the work gets done the same way on a Tuesday afternoon as it does when you're standing there watching. Development is whether your people are growing into their jobs or waiting on you to tell them what's next. Those roll up into a Founder's Score, which shows how dependent the business is on you and where we should start.

Then I get to work. I come in part-time as a fractional operator and build the processes your team will actually use, not a binder that collects dust on a shelf.

What makes me different from most consultants you've met? I only do operations. If you need more leads, I'll send you to someone good at that. I've also spent 14 years in uniform and close to 30 in corporate operations, so I've seen what happens when a system breaks at scale and what it takes to put it back together.

As for results, a tech CEO I worked with told me his team now makes decisions without waiting for his approval. A manufacturing CFO said they doubled productivity within six months of putting the plan in place.

If you want to see how I work before you ever hear a price, join me on October 21 at noon Central for The Teardown.

Send me a DM and I'll get you the link.

The operations binder is full. Nobody's opening it.

You documented the roles. You wrote the standards. Turnover's low, people know their jobs, and the phone still rings the whole week you're gone.

Here's what nobody tells you. A job description says what somebody does. It says nothing about what they can decide without you.

Thursday I'm breaking down the difference, and the one test that tells you which one you built.
