Tuve cáncer, -en pasado.

Esta mañana, recibí el informe de patología después de mi mastectomía total y.. respuesta oncológica completa.
Estoy limpia. Sin cáncer.

La tormenta ha menguado y empezó a salir el sol. El camino aún tiene sus desafíos y el tratamiento aún continúa pero pronto todo pasará.

Celebro la victoria sobre la adversidad, y quiero volver aquí siempre para recordarme que sí pude, puedo y podré. También para honrar a aquellos que han estado a mi lado en cada paso de este camino y para compartir un mensaje de esperanza y fortaleza con aquellos que aún luchan su propia batalla.

Gracias por ser parte de mi historia y por su inquebrantable apoyo. ✊🏼💖🎗️

I HAD cancer — Past tense

This morning, I received the pathology report after my total mastectomy and… a complete oncologic response.
I am clear. Cancer-free.

The storm has begun to fade, and the sun is starting to rise. The road still has its challenges, and treatment continues, but soon this too shall pass.

I celebrate this victory over adversity, and I want to come back here whenever I need to remind myself that I did it, I can, and I will. Also, to honor those who have stood by me every step of the way, and to share a message of hope and strength with those who are still fighting their own battle.

Creo que mi gusto por viajar empezó mucho antes de que yo supiera qué era viajar. Empezó en una cuchara.

Mi nonita me cuchareaba de pequeña y fingíamos que ese bocado era la gasolina de mi avión y con cada cucharada corría a algún rincón de la casa imaginando que era un lugar diferente del mundo. Después vinieron los viajes de verdad.

Ella me llevó por carretera a todos los rincones de Colombia. Era quien organizaba las rutas, escogía los destinos y convertía el camino en toda una aventura.

Pero antes de enseñarme el mundo, me enseñó a leerlo.
Me enseñó a leer y a escribir; a contar unidades, decenas y centenas mientras desgranábamos arvejas los sábados por la mañana. Ella, como buena maestra, me enseñó que aprender también podía ser un juego.
Y quizás sin darse cuenta, con su ejemplo me enseñó algo más:

Que el mundo es demasiado grande para quedarse quieto, que siempre hay un camino por descubrir,
y que las mejores historias muchas veces empiezan con alguien que nos lleva de la mano. Muchas de las cosas que amo llevan un poquito mucho de ella:

Las ganas de viajar.
La curiosidad.
El amor por las historias.
La necesidad de guardar los momentos.
El estar siempre arreglada, bien vestida y presentada

Llevo meses grabándola, retratándola. Grabo sus manos, su caminar, sus conversaciones, sus rutinas. Grabo esos pequeños gestos que quizás algún día mi memoria no alcance a guardar sola. Y mientras la grabo, pienso que tal vez eso también es viajar.

Volver a los lugares donde empezó todo.
Recorrer una y otra vez las historias que nos hicieron quienes somos. Detenerse a mirar a las personas que nos enseñaron a mirar.

Durante muchos años ella fue quien me llevó de la mano a conocer el mundo y ahora, de alguna manera, siento que soy yo quien intenta llevarse un pedacito de ella para el camino. Y es que viajar también es eso: llevarse algo de cada lugar, y yo tuve la suerte de que mi primer destino fuera ella.

Lately, life has been reminding me that sometimes the longest journeys are the ones that bring you back.

Back to the places that shaped you.
Back to the people who knew you before you knew yourself.
Back to the version of you that was always there, just waiting to be found again.

Because coming back isn’t the same as going backwards. Sometimes, it’s realizing that everything you’ve lived was quietly preparing you to see the same place with new eyes.

And maybe that’s what this trip is about. 🩵

There are sounds that go straight to the heart, the ones you wish you could keep forever 💖

Last month, I found a video from 2019 where my child, with his sweet little voice, was singing to a butterfly so I couldn’t resist bringing this memory to life with a bit of animation.

On December 31st, our connection from New York to Orlando, with a layover in Charlotte, turned into a terrible experience.

The first flight was delayed, and even though we made it just in time for boarding, we were told that our tickets had been oversold. They left us off the flight and rebooked us on the next one… 11 hours later.

So, to pass the time and not let it ruin our wonderful trip, my son and I decided to do something to remind ourselves never to fly with this airline again ✨🤞🏽✨ by @dianacromatica
