I can't believe this was just a few short days ago. The years(!) leading up to this trip seemed like another lifetime. And in some ways, it was. There was a pandemic. My daughter graduated. And I ended my 4 years of service to the Booster Board.

But this this trip brought me home. Home to my Band family, and home to my bio-family, including my 91 year old Nana whom I haven't seen since 2018.
And as we are in the final stretch of this drive back to Austin, I'm reflecting on this chapter of my life that has officially come to an end.
.
.
.
Being a part of the Band Boosters for the @armarchingstars was always so important to me, but I don't think I really understood why until this trip.
Of course there was spending time with my kiddo, and supporting something so close to her heart. That's why I showed up at first.

But what I realized this week is that the true siren call for me is experiencing the opportunity for each person - student, volunteer, director - to use their talents and skills in a creative endeavor that is greater than the sum of its parts. Everyone has a critical role.
Everyone matters.
No one can do it alone.
And when we all do our one job, it becomes something like the Herculean feat we just witnessed.

It is the essence of community.
It is not without pain, struggle, frustration, or panic.
But in a time when there is such division and isolation...to come together for one beautiful, epic undertaking that could never have been done by any one of us alone...only together...
Well, that was just magical.

Trying to stick to cheap eats on the road, but our food costs still come out of the kids' Macy's travel budget. Your donation will go a long way to offset costs across the board for Band families, so keep them coming!
The fundraiser is *so* close to our $5000 goal. 😍

It's bittersweet to be on this side of the Macy's Parade. But we have a mission to complete!

We still need your help to keep the momentum going, and not only make sure that the costs of this trip are covered, but that the band has some extra to make up for the significant deficits in fundraising resulting due to the pandemic.

This mile matching campaign will continue through 11/29, and we need your help to reach $7000, or $2 for each mile of our trip.

Can I count on you to share the video of our performance and a link to this fundraiser?

The Starship Ann-terprise landed in Hagerstown, Maryland!
Shout out to the Islamic Center of Hagerstown who let us park in their lot, and the inimitable Ms. Rae at Potomac Seafood of Hagerstown for the delicious fish and crabcake sandwiches. ❤

Only 240 miles remaining!
We're still $600 short of our goal, so please share, text your friends, and tell your neighbor over the fence to Match My Miles To Macys!

Calling it a night in Roanoke, y'all. The drive was beautiful, your donations were plentiful, and we look forward to Day 3 tomorrow when we get to see our Stars!
@armarchingstars
PS: if you donate to our fundraiser you get exclusive updates that will include shots behind the scenes! Right now, there's a horrifying video of what I found while trying to enjoy a picturesque lunch and leg-stretch in Knoxville. More to come!

Between the FB fundraiser and venmo, we've raised $2000 for the Ann Richards Marching Stars, y'all! We will still be traveling through the 29th, and would love to SMASH our $3500 goal.
So keep giving, keep sharing, and I'll be sure to post plenty of thank yous from the girls in NYC!

Ain't no party like a dashboard soup party, 'cause a dashboard soup party don't stop!
We are eating frugally, since this trip to the #macysparade is fully funded by our band families.
Could you pop on in to our fundraiser and drop a few bucks to offset the cost of getting the band's equipment to NYC? The nation's only all-female marching band thanks you! @armarchingstars
