Mnemosyne Projects presents the works of four ceramicists in a site-specific exhibition at Bellevalia Olive Grove. Set within the living landscape, the exhibition explores ceramics beyond function, as a medium once shaped for symbolic, ritualistic, and artistic purposes. In this context, ceramics take on another dimension, one that carries memory, identity, belief, and transformation. Together, site and objects invite reflection on the relationship between human intuition and the natural world.

Dana Aviv is a clay artist based on Hydra.
Her work is deeply inspired by ancient civilizations, particularly those of the Mediterranean and the Middle East, where objects were not merely functional but carried symbolic and spiritual significance. Influenced by an animistic understanding of the world, she is drawn to cultures in which matter was perceived as animated by an inner presence and where gesture, material, and belief were inseparable and often intertwined with the sacred.
Working exclusively by hand, she employs pre-industrial techniques that bypass the wheel, honoring ancestral methods of making. Her pieces are characterized by unglazed tactile surfaces, irregular forms, and an earthy palette.
Her work emerges from an inner landscape of images, memories, dreams, and intuitions, seeking to evoke a sense of timelessness and reconnect with the human impulse to perceive the material world as inhabited by meaning.

Diane Alexandre is a French born sculptor, living in Athens. For the past nine years, Diane has been developing her sculptural work, in clay and porcelain, through the prism of mythology, surrealism, mystagogic, subconscious dimensions and self-healing.
She creates symbolic works that channel deities and archetypes drawn from ancient cultures. Her practice evokes Nature’s power and human emotion through totemic forms.
Her work aims to impulse in her audience a desire to dig deeper in themselves. To see and feel whatever there is to witness and accept. She sees her creative world as a reflection of her inner pond, fleeting, opaque and beautiful, mirroring her ups, her downs, her doubts and beliefs, for everyone to see. Her artistic practice was born to mediate catharsis. by @dianealexandre

Today my favourite establishment closed. An institution for those who recognise the beauty of a well made tool. The building was sold. They had to go. I will not wonder at Japanese carving blades or German locks anymore. I will miss the ballet of salesmen, wrapping fine copper flat headed nails in craft paper, handing me a paper note with ridiculous prices. I will miss the grey curls of the owner, at the cashier desk, who would welcome me with a perfect French. I do not know if I have a reason to visit Athinas street anymore. Only to slow down, and remember when I used to come and buy beautiful things I may never need… so long then. I will remember you fondly. by @dianealexandre

Living between Athens and Paris, French-born artist Diane Alexandre (@diane_alexandre_ceramics) has developed a sculptural practice in clay and porcelain, shaped through storytelling, myth and symbolism.

Her objects draw on deities and archetypal figures found across ancient cultures. In totemic forms, she explores the interplay between the elemental and human emotion, creating pieces that hold a meditative presence.
