B-Tapes Mix 005, helmed by one of Bandung’s beloved electronic music artists, a 2nd Indonesian talent we represent in our roster, For decades, Bandung has quietly shaped Indonesia’s underground. While Jakarta often commands the spotlight, it’s Bandung that has consistently nurtured some of the country’s most adventurous artists—where punk, experimental music, visual arts and independent culture have long coexisted under a shared DIY philosophy.It’s a city where communities are built before careers, where independent spaces become incubators, and where tradition isn’t preserved behind museum walls but continually reimagined through new generations of musicians.Emerging from this fertile landscape is Xin Lie.Raised within Bandung’s hardcore punk community before finding his voice through electronic music, Xin Lie represents a new generation of Indonesian artists redefining what club music can become. His productions draw from the ritualistic rhythms of Sundanese traditions such as Reak and Kuda Renggong, weaving together field recordings, percussive experimentation and contemporary electronic music into something unmistakably his own. Rather than borrowing from heritage as an aesthetic, his music grows naturally from the culture and communities surrounding him.Freshly signed to Bassis for Asian representation and set to make his Klymax debut later this month, B-Tapes 005 introduces another side of Xin Lie.
