Exeter Boulders
Rig: Bioluminescence V9
Coach: @orange_performance_coaching

I’ve been climbing for over 25 years now and a lot of the reason I’ve stuck with it over all these years is because of mentorship by the older generation when I was in high school. Now I’m the old guy at the crag and gym.

I’m not going to lie when I showed up to this rig I wanted to be alone and it’s odd I would even encounter anyone at this stand alone boulder in Exeter of all places. I quickly shifted my mindset to being a mentor and thinking of all the ways I could help these teenagers love climbing as much as I do.

They walked all the way from Exeter Academy with pads on which is pretty bad ass first and foremost. I’m sure they got looks! They were delightful and I was able to help Noah send his first V6, Green Lantern. I was also able to give a few solid tips to the crew ranging from send tactics to skin management. I challenge you old heads if you’re at a rig and you see some younger folk just to talk to them and make sure they feel accepted.

Midnight Feather V10 Cape Ann

Huge props to @jake.lats for developing this little zone. Extremely happy to send this one. A hard one for me with some delicate foot work on the intro sequence. It really never got easy for me but I trusted the process and the fitness @orange_performance_coaching and I have been building and about 90 minutes into my 4th session I summited! #nebouldering #organicclimbingpads #bouldering_videos_of_instagram #bouldering by @dianuar

Doom Scroll V11

I sent my first V11 on June 11, 2010, with @grampa_geezy love you, bud. Doom Scroll is number 64 and my first as a 40 year old.

I haven’t been running at all lately due to some severe tendonitis. I used to joke that once I broke three hours in the marathon, I’d quit running—well, that happened back in October 2019, lol. I’ll run again one day. Between this injury and reuniting with @kaiwebs & the western MA crew last fall—thanks Kai, for reminding me why Iove climbing so much—I’ve shifted my focus to climbing, and I couldn’t be happier about it.

@orange_performance_coaching was one of the first people I met when I moved to New England, and we’ve been extremely close ever since. Beyond being an incredible friend, Nick is a solid coach who helped get me back into the shape I needed to send something like Doom Scroll. It meant a lot to have him there with me for the send.

If you’re looking to become the best climber you can be, hit Nick up—he’ll build you a plan with specific workouts tailored to your schedule, with a strong focus on developing the strength you need to send.

I finally made it out here! Bear Blocks. Face of Evil V9. Excited for more. Great day with my favorite farmer @andrew.orde. 🚜🚜

This area is fantastic but just like Richmond Hillside it could get dicey with access. There is one parking spot. Use only that spot and carpool. Absolutely no street parking ever. At most 4 cars could be there. If you see a person that lives in the area, smile and say hello like a normal human being. We got this!
