Project Spotlight: Smith Alley Brewing Company 🍻

Completed in 2019, Smith Alley Brewing in downtown Sheridan, Wyoming, consisted of repurposing a century-old, 14,250 sq ft Boot Barn retail building. Once complete, the renovated building became a vibrant, airy, two-level brewery and restaurant space, with additional customized tenant office space on the 2nd floor.

The craft brewery and restaurant has become a hot spot in historic downtown Sheridan, and DAC was proud to be apart of it.

Congratulations to Tucker Merkel on his promotion to Assistant Field Project Manager at our Bozeman office!

Tucker hired on with DAC as a Laborer in 2020 and worked on the YC Triplexes until heading back to MSU in 2022 to earn his degree. After graduating in 2023, he rejoined the team and worked on 19th & Graf Apartments Phase 1 & 2. He is currently working on the Lodgeside Condos project.

Outside of work, Tucker enjoys hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and spending time with friends and family.

Congratulations, Tucker! We're excited to see you continue making an impact in your new role.

Project Spotlight: White Sulphur Springs School

Building a new K-12 campus in three phases while keeping an active school running is no easy task. With a tight project budget, DAC worked closely with CWG Architects during preconstruction to balance the scope with available funding and bring the GMP into line.

Phase 1: Classroom Wing
- 21,400 SF
- All new K-12 classrooms
- Library
- Mechanical/electrical rooms
- Restrooms

Phase 2: Administration Wing
- Demolition of the existing high school and junior high
- 18,300 SF
- Administration rooms
- Gym and locker rooms
- Cafeteria
- Commons area

Phase 3: Demolition
- Demolition of the existing elementary school

Timeline: May 2016 – November 2017

A crane, a plan, and a lot of scaffolding.

What you’re watching here is one of the most delicate moves on the Montana Capitol Dome restoration project.

The goal was simple: safely lift the statue with enough precision that, a hundred years from now, you wouldn’t know it ever left.

Every angle, lift point, and piece of rigging was carefully planned. With materials this delicate, there’s no room for guessing. It takes experience, attention to detail, and a team that knows how to get the job done right.

Chris Copeland, Branch Manager at Action Equipment and Scaffold Company, shared:

“The amount of scaffolding on this project is substantial, even by our standards. A typical commercial project may require access to a relatively straightforward section of a building. On the Montana Capitol building, we’re creating a much more curated access plan that climbs up from the ground to the roofline, then continues all the way to the top of the dome. The shape of the structure, elevation changes, and historic architecture make this considerably more complex than a conventional scaffold installation.

The combination of construction elevators, material hoists, stairs, and access ladders, all are integrated into the access plan.

The collaborative efforts led by DAC and their team activating the many facets of this project has been fantastic so far, and it is a great honor to be a part of it.”

Congratulations to Jake Ziegler, Project Manager in our Helena office, on 10 YEARS with DAC!

Jake is currently working on RC North Barn, RC Kienle Residence, RC Cabin Lot 23, RC Cabin Lot 22A, and RC Holland Residence.

When asked what his favorite part of working at DAC is, Jake shared:
"My favorite part of working at DAC is getting to work with a great group of people, seeing our projects go full circle from idea to completion, and getting to know some great people we build for."

Project Spotlight: First Bank of Wyoming

When First Bank of Wyoming’s new Sheridan branch was initially estimated over budget, DAC worked closely with the design team and owner to find ways to bring the project back in line without losing sight of the overall vision.

This project brought together a range of structural and architectural systems:
- HSS columns and steel beams
- Steel sheet sheathing shear walls
- Wood roof trusses with glulam beams
- EPDM and standing seam metal roofing
- CFS studs, gypsum sheathing, and polyiso insulation
- Exterior siding, metal panels, and cultured stone

We split the project into two bid packages, allowing construction to begin earlier. The project broke ground in August 2022 and was completed in September 2023.

From structural systems to finish selections, every detail plays a role in getting a project across the finish line.

Congratulations to Cole Morse on his promotion to Foreman at our Helena office!

Cole joined the DAC team about a year after graduating high school, and his first project, the Carroll College Chapel, remains one of his favorites to this day. It had a little bit of everything, from demo and crane work all the way down to the finishing touches. Along the way, he also spent a short stint in our Missoula office while his wife was in school.

Outside of work, Cole enjoys hunting, fishing, and boating on the lake.

Project Spotlight: Villagio Apartments, Missoula, MT

Building 200 apartments is no small job. 🏗️

Built for the Missoula Housing Authority, the Villagio Apartments project brought together DAC’s preconstruction team, architects, and owners to make sure the right features made it into the design without pushing the project beyond its allotted budget.

The result? Two five-story wood-frame buildings built over a concrete podium, complete with underground parking and a mix of two-, three-, and four-bedroom apartments. Every unit includes two bathrooms, and the exterior features metal and James Hardie siding.

- 350,000 SF
- 200 apartments
- 5 stories, 2 buildings
- Underground parking
- Completed in 2022
