"And have mercy on those who doubt; save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh."
- Jude 1:22-23

We are to have compassion on those who doubt. We are to always be prepared to give a defence for the reason of Christ in us with gentleness and respect (1 Peter 3:15). However, we're also to discern when we need stronger measures; yes, some even need to be "scared into Heaven", but this fear should turn into a respectful fear of the Lord and love for Him and what He has done to save (1 John 4:18). In the end, it is the Holy Spirit who enables people to have faith and be saved, so we're also to know when to move on and avoid those whose hearts remain hardened, especially if they're causing us to no longer be gentle. If we can't convince them of the truth of the gospel, I know for a fact God still can.

Honoured to have met @andysteiger of @apologeticscanada at the (1st Annual?) Maritime Apologetics Conference. God is doing something new in NB!

It also happens to be my rebirthday long weekend, so this was an especially encouraging time as I respond to what God is doing in my life.

"My argument against God was that the universe seemed so cruel and unjust. But how had I got this idea of just and unjust? A man does not call a line crooked unless he has some idea of a straight line. What was I comparing this universe with when I called it unjust? If the whole show was bad and senseless from A to Z, so to speak, why did I, who was supposed to be part of the show, find myself in such violent reaction against it? A man feels wet when he falls into water, because man is not a water animal: a fish would not feel wet. Of course I could have given up my idea of justice by saying it was nothing but a private idea of my own. But if I did that, then my argument against God collapsed too - for the argument depended on saying that the world was really unjust, not simply that it did not happen to please my private fancies. Thus in the very act of trying to prove that God did not exist - in other words, that the whole of reality was senseless - I found I was forced to assume that one part of reality - namely my idea of justice - was full of sense. Consequently atheism turns out to be too simple. If the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found out that it has no meaning: just as, if there were no light in the universe and therefore no creatures with eyes, we should never know it was dark. Dark would be a word without meaning."

On 3/28, I attended the Resurrection Con hosted by @kingswooduniversity, @ratiochristicanada, and @apologeticscanada.

Pastor Spike Sprague (@uplandsbaptist) answered the claim that the resurrection was stolen from paganism. Mike Hiscock presented the traditional evidence using the minimal facts approach – it's undeniable Jesus lived and died by crucifixion, His early followers and Paul thought they saw Him risen, His brother James became a follower, and the gospel message was taught very soon after. Cody J. Guitard spoke about surprising evidence: the Jewish crucifixion victim Jehohanan, the Nazareth Inscription, the scandalousness of a crucified and divine Messiah to Jewish disciples, the day of worship shifting to Sunday (no, it wasn't Catholicism), and Jesus' name alone having power over demons. My key takeaways included new evidence authenticating the earliest account of Jesus by Josephus and the non-Christian exorcists using Jesus' name due to its efficacy by Christians.

Jesus didn't just die for you on the cross; He rose in defeat of death. He wasn't risen just to vindicate His claims; He reversed the curse of death due to sin. He was able to rise because only He was able to live the sinless life God's law required, thus becoming our spotless sacrifice for sin (Ac 2:24). The resurrection's not only the miraculous sign Jews persistently demanded yet rejected (Mt 12:38-41, Lk 11:14-16, Jn 2:18-22), but the result of Him taking on the curse for them (Isa 53:4-6, 10-12). It's why Jesus could say, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live." (Jn 11:25). By not connecting the resurrection to God's promise at the fall (Gn 3:15), we miss the full gospel. It's no wonder some Christians have bought the lie that we can unhitch from the Law of Moses.

I'm thankful I was able to attend this conference and pray there'll be others to reach more students. There's life after death, but you choose whether you want to spend it eternally in bliss with God or in agony with Satan. The resurrection promises us salvation. Trust in this promise today (2 Cor 6:2).

For 22 years, I was feeding my flesh, everything that I did was to please it
Livin' in 2 Dimensions, so you wouldn't see what was hidden in secret
I was discreet and devious, my sins were all grievous
But no matter what I did, it left me a skeleton who was fiendish
'Cause it was never enough, nothin' that I did would complete it
Whether it was the drinks or the E pills, the bong hits or the weed spliffs
Or the chicks I would sleep with, nothin' would gimme happiness
The Enemy promised me the world, but all he'd give me is the gyp (Egypt)
Almost had me enslaved forever, 'til I got on my knees and I ticked off my demons
'Cause I read the Word and now I knew it was true Satan was defeated
Wanted me to destroy my life with drugs and things that kill so I'd be his
But God changed my life, we can't do it on our own, so I did it with Jesus

God watches over His own. He cares about His lambs (1 Peter 5:7) and will carry them out of Babylon (1 Peter 5:13) back to Judah through His Servant (Isaiah 42:1-7, 49:6, Matthew 12:15-21). Fear not.

Psalm 139:1-4
O Lord, you have searched me and known me!
2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
 you discern my thoughts from afar.
3 You search out my path and my lying down
  and are acquainted with all my ways.
4 Even before a word is on my tongue,
 behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.
5 You hem me in, behind and before,
 and lay your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
 it is high; I cannot attain it.

Psalm 23:4, 6
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
 I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
 your rod and your staff,
 they comfort me.
...
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
  all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
  forever.

I realize this verse was written to the southern Kingdom of Judah about a century before the Babylonian exile, but the principle still applies to us today.

The verse following it is commonly shared on New Year's Eve. The "new thing" foretells God's deliverance of the Judeans from Babylon and their return to Judah, using the Persian king Cyrus as His servant, about 150 years before it happened (Isaiah 44:28, 45:1, 13; cf. Ezra 1:1-2, 2 Chronicles 36:22-23). Isaiah also foretold another Servant who would save sinners, be a light for the Gentiles, and bring Jews to Him - Jesus the Messiah (Isaiah 42:1-7, 49:6, Luke 2:30-32, Matthew 12:15-21, Acts 3:13, 26, 26:23). Fun fact: One of Cyrus' titles was King of Kings, a title used for Jesus in 1 Timothy (6:15) and Revelation (17:14 and 19:16).

God's people were not to dwell on their deliverance out of Egypt, for God had another deliverance in store for them - and ultimately the greatest deliverance through the Messiah (Isaiah 42:9, Jeremiah 23:5-8). Similarly, though we remember God's work in our pasts with thankfulness, we're not to be stuck in the "good old days" to the point of missing God's future work in us. In life, we will also have trouble (John 16:33), but we're to remember that God is able to turn bad into good (Genesis 50:20).

In His timing, this verse has also come up in the song I'm currently working on. It'll be my most exciting release yet. I'm pumped for it and the other music I still have planned for 2026. God always has a way of putting songs on my heart that I didn't plan. Time flies and there will always be projects I wish I completed, but I am to look forward to those that I do (Luke 9:62).

This is also a year of new beginnings as we move into a new home in a new province with a new job. Here's to what God will do this year!

Trusting In Him.
