Broken Heart Syndrome: A Medical Explanation
Broken heart syndrome, also known as Takotsubo cardiomyopathy or stress cardiomyopathy, is a rare heart condition triggered by intense emotional or physical stress.
Symptome:
Chest pain or pressure
Shortness of breath
Heart rhythm disturbances
Dizziness or fainting
Causes:
Intense emotional stress (e.g., grief, fear, anger)
Physical stress (e.g., surgery, accident, severe illness)
Hormonal changes
Other factors such as certain medications
Pathophysiologie:
Broken heart syndrome is caused by a sudden, temporary weakening of the heart muscle, leading to a balloon-like expansion of the heart chamber. This can be triggered by an overreaction of the sympathetic nervous system to stress, causing blood vessels to constrict and reducing blood flow to the heart.
Treatment:
Treatment focuses on relieving symptoms and monitoring the heart.
In severe cases, intensive medical treatment may be necessary. by @die_chrissy_1
