Pack your toboggan, we’re hitting the slopes.

Start the year with your head in the clouds. Our first doof with a view: elevation 1,564 metres.

The NYE veterans know that this gathering of ours is a travelling circus of sorts.

From the wetlands of Wail, the forests of Raglan, tracks of Hamilton and around the Goulburn River. For ‘26 it’s all about big beautiful Mt Baw Baw.

This year, we’re going for lower temps (better for day-dancing and tent napping) and higher vibes (better for everything).

We’ll be the temporary custodians of the entire mountain and ski village, both a responsibility and a privilege on the traditional lands of the Gunaikurnai and Wurundjeri peoples.

No sleeping neighbours in sight, only the snowgums guiding and guarding the dance floor.

Passes are live for past attendees >>> lineup next week! taken in Mount Baw Baw by @diega.au

***NEW DATE 30.01.26***

You’re invited to ORTA.

A garden party, of sorts, held on Saturday January 30, 2027 at Heide Museum of Modern Art.

Where inanimate things tell stories, and movement leaves its trace in the grass. A place of fixed forms and flowing gestures; earthly delights scattered like breadcrumbs for wandering minds.

For the first time, Diega folds across @heidemoma . Heide’s Sculpture Park honours stillness: objects that hold their ground. While Diega deals in movement: the art of bodies in motion.

Meander through six hectares of Heide’s beloved sculpture park where form brushes against motion, image melts into sound, and taste charts the contours of the terrain. ORTA is a day that weaves pockets of Australia’s creative scene through a singular thread. Dispatches from places where we all belong.

Art therapy is almost in session. Tickets via the link in bio. Line-up to come.

the dance floor is a transitory place. here one minute, gone the next
population: 1 - ∞
where frayed edges of everybody (every.body) are dissolved and bound to the same beat
expect steep highs and wide low end
and a space where self expression mutates into co-expression
experience, re-experience your body
rinse, repeat

’Some come to serve looks. Some come to leave their sweat on the dance floor’ — McKenzie Wark

come dance with us.

FIELD NOTES & BRAIN TICKLES behind ORTA, our new festival in Heide’s Sculpture Park.

1. Flowers and Trees (1932), Burt Gillett. First three-strip Technicolor film & first Oscar for Best Cartoon Short.

2. Hieronymus Bosch’s The Garden of Earthly Delights (c.1490–1500). Paradise, earthly pleasure & damnation, moving from Eden through sensual indulgence, fantastical creatures & oversized fruits, before descending into Hell.

3. Robin Williams’ “eclectic celebration of a dance” as Armand (1996). Iconic and fabulous as always. And Bob Fosse of course.

4. Art attack intro.

5. Italy’s Storytelling Gardens: Sacro Bosco, Bomarzo. A 16th-century “Park of Monsters” where surreal sculptures and mythological creatures are embedded throughout the landscape. Transforming the garden into a narrative to be wandered through rather than simply observed. Entering is like stepping into a dream, where paths can be followed or strayed from, leading to unexpected encounters and discoveries. As visitors move through the landscape, they become participants in its unfolding story, performers within the garden itself.

6. Les Rencontres d’Arles. Robert Doisneau, early supporter of Arles Photography Festival, holds a negative to the sun “the photographer of photographers” (1986).

7. The Tarot Garden, near Capalbio on the Tuscan coast, was created by Niki de Saint Phalle from the 1970s. A monumental joyland and “proof that women artists can work on a monumental scale just as men do.” Giant Tarot figures chart a path through the garden, drawing on spiritual traditions from around the world.

8. Robert Irwin, Light & Space Installations. Light & perception become the artwork. “Basically, the answer is just to make you a little more aware than you were the day before.”

9. Rashid Johnson: A Poem for Deep Thinkers. 90 works across painting, sculpture, film, installation & performance. NYC 2025 - Masked dancer.

10. Noguchi & Shoji Sadao, Play Equipment, Moerenuma Koen, Sapporo, 1988. “I wished to show my long-held belief that play could lead to a new appreciation of sculpture.”

11. Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way: weekly solo “Artist Dates” for your creative self. “Serious art is born fro taken in Heide Museum of Modern Art by @diega.au

As the mountain became veiled in cloud
we lost sight but not sound,

sound of the kick drum,
sound of the guzheng strings,
sound of the Groove Armada we Superstylin’.

We turned the village into our temporary home, we wandered around, snatched wigs from each other’s heads, swung on the hilltop, and slept sideways.

Some found the summit, others found the nest.

A bit out of breath but breathtaking nonetheless

— Blame it on the altitude —

What we know is that this one was for the history books: Baw Baw’s first music festival. Our first Mountain.

It’s never a sure thing how a festival vibe is gonna vibe. You can’t just Control C, Control V that stuff; take it across the state, and all the way up 1,500 m. Cars ran hot. Temps ran cold. Like always, the weather dictates the outcome and it’s our job to dance around it. Mumma mountain kept us on our toes. Yet we held it. You held it. And we grooved into another year just like we’ve always done.

There was a unique feeling that came with this edition. A collective calmness, a shared slowness, a nowness. The atmosphere was reflective of a crowd who cared about the land and each other. By all accounts you made our jobs easy.

Thank you for choosing to spend your New Year’s Eve with us, for your continued support of our little gathering, for your contributions whether through volunteering, buying a pass or sharing your talents, and for trusting us to host you for a seventh time.

Have a great year (it’s all uphill from here) x Diega
