At the beginning of last year, I had the fantastic opportunity for another dream come true. We spent almost three weeks in Cambodia and Thailand. Cambodia was the first time for me and one of my dream destinations.
Let’s start with the arrival at Thailand. We booked a hotel/resort about a 10 minutes’ drive from the airport as we had to go back the next morning to Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi for our flight to Cambodia.
The first picture shows a small part of the resort at 5 AM in the morning shortly before leaving for the airport.
I took the 2nd the evening before from the restaurant we had dinner at.
Fun fact on arrival.
I found out that I had booked the taxi to pick us up and the rooms in the resort for one month later 🙈 So, arrival was a bit less relaxed than planned as I had to rearrange things.

Anfang letzten Jahres hatte ich mal wieder die großartige Gelegenheit mir einen Reisetraum zu erfüllen. Ich war fast 3 Wochen in Kambodscha und Thailand. In Kambodscha war ich zum allerersten Mal und es war superschön. Dazu später mehr.
Für die Ankunft in Thailand hatte ich für uns Zimmer in einem Resort etwa 10 Minuten mit dem Taxi vom Flughafen Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi gebucht. Das war wichtig da wir am nächsten Morgen sehr früh wieder zum Flughafen mussten für den Flug nach Kambodscha.
Das erste Foto, das mir besser gefällt, hab ich um 5 Uhr morgens gemacht kurz bevor es zum Flughafen losging. Das zweite am Abend davor vom Restaurant aus, in dem wir zu Abend gegessen hatten.
Fun Fact zur Ankunft.
Am Flughafen fand ich raus, dass ich sowohl das Taxi als auch die Unterkunft erst einen Monat später gebucht hatte 🙈 Die Ankunft war also leider nicht ganz so relaxed wie ich mir das vorgestellt hatte. Ich musste am Flughafen auf die Schnelle alles umarrangieren

The last few pictures from this stay in Italy. It was the first time I drove Passo di Pennes by car. Even though there was still snow up here it was warm enough to drive top down. Even by car the pass is fun. And yes, I had to stop and take some pictures up the the top. I took the first towards Sarentino where we came from.
The second is the convertible at that time. The third is the view towards the Vipiteno side of the pass. If you look closely, you might see the road leading down. That’s the even more interesting ramp.

Die letzten paar Bilder von diesem Aufenthalt in Italien. Das erste Mal, dass ich das Penser Joch mit dem Auto gefahren bin, und was soll ich sagen, es macht auch mit dem Auto Spaß. Obwohl oben noch ordentlich Schnee lag, war es doch nicht zu kalt, um offen zu fahren. Oben angekommen musste ich natürlich ein paar Bilder machen.
Das erste ist der Blick zurück in Richtung Sarntal. Das zweite ist mein damaliges Cabrio. Das dritte hab ich in die Fahrtrichtung Sterzing gemacht. Wenn ihr genau hinseht erkennt ihr sogar die Straße die runterführt. Die Rampe ist sogar noch interessanter zu fahren.

The few days in Garda always pass by too quick and it was time heading back home. As the weather was nice, I took the route along the lake. If you aren’t in a hurry, it can be a very scenic route. Towards the northern end of Lago di Garda near Malcesine I took a quick snap of this nice view.

Die paar Tage in Garda vergehen jedes Mal wie im Flug und es war schon wieder Zeit nach Hause zu fahren. Da das Wetter schön war und ich es nicht eilig hatte bin ich am See entlanggefahren. Mit der nötigen Geduld ist das eine sehr schöne Strecke. Ungefähr auf der Höhe von Malcesine hab ich für ein paar schnelle Bilder angehalten. Dieser Blick über das nördliche Ende des Gardasees in die Berge war einfach zu verlockend.

Before starting the descent from La Rocca to Bardolino lets enjoy the view of Bardolino from above as in the first picture.
In Bardolino the reward for the hike is a stay at Cristallo, to my knowledge the best gelateria there. Some say the best at Lago di Garda, I wouldn’t know though. Usually, I’m having an Aperol Spritz 😆
Then its back to Garda. Once around the small headland at the edge of Bardolino it is already visible in the distance with La Rocca towering over it. Just two hours earlier we’ve still been up there.

Bevor es von der Rocca runter nach Bardolino geht erst mal noch den Blick von oben auf Bardolino genießen. Ihr seht den im ersten Bild.
In Bardolino gibt’s dann als Belohnung Pause im Cristallo. Meines Wissens nach die beste Eisdiele in Bardolino. Manche behaupten am ganzen Gardasee. Ich kann beides nicht wirklich beurteilen denn ich nehm in der Regel einen Aperol Spritz 😆
Danach geht’s zurück nach Garda. Wenn man beim Riesenrad um die Landzunge rum ist kann man Garda schon in der Ferne sehen. Und darüber die Rocca di Garda. Da waren wir vor ca. 2 Stunden noch oben.

The last section up to La Rocca di Garda is pretty steep, and usually I ask myself why the heck I keep doing this every year. On arrival it is crystal clear why. Looking out across Lago di Garda and down onto the city of Garda, unbeatable for a relatively short hike. I already know, I will be back up there next year 😄
I show you three pictures increasingly zoomed in. The last of the three is so far the best I could get from of Villa degli Albertini.

Der letzte Abschnitt zur Rocca di Garda hoch ist nochmal richtig steil und anstrengend. Auf diesem Stück frag ich mich jedes Mal warum ich mir das immer wieder antu. Oben angekommen ist es dann aber wieder glasklar. Der Blick über den Gardasee und runter auf Garda, für eine relativ kurze Wanderung ist das unschlagbar. Ich weiß jetzt schon, nächstes Jahr bin ich auf jeden Fall wieder hier oben.😀
Ich hab euch 3 Bilder mit zunehmendem Zoom in den Post gepackt. Das 3. ist das Beste der Villa degli Albertini das ich bisher von außen machen konnte.

The hike to Bardolino via La Rocca and back along the lake is by now one of our regular activities. After the first ascent a nice view across Lago di Garda towards the peninsula of Sirmione opens. This is where I took the first picture for this post.
A bit further up is Eremo di San Giorgio a hermitage/monastery which we use for a short break, maybe some shopping and me taking pictures of course. That’s the second in this post.

Die Wanderung nach Bardolino über die Rocca di Garda und am See zurück haben wir inzwschen zur regelmäßigen Aktitivät gemacht. Nach dem ersten, relativ steilen Anstieg werden wir mit dem Blick über den Gardasee auf die Halbinsel Sirmione belohnt. Dort hab ich das erste Bild für diesen Post gemacht.
Etwas weiter oben kommt dann die Eremo di San Giorgio. Eine Einsiedelei und Kloster. Dort machen wir eine kurze Pause. Ich mach meist Bilder und die anderen kaufen Honig oder Öl ein. Da hab ich das 2. Bild gemacht.

I just love this view from the hotel roof. At least once during a stay I go up, maybe with a glass of white, and spend some quiet moments taking it in.

These are the last impressions of the archaeological site in Sirmione I want to share with you. This row of arches fascinated me and I took pictures from three perspectives while I walked around them. I put them up for you in the order I circled them.
Is there one you like better than the others? If so please let me know. I do have preferences 😉

So das sind jetzt die letzten Eindrücke die ich euch von der Ausgrabungsstätte in Sirmione zeigen möchte. Diese Torbogenreihe hat mich sehr fasziniert. Ich hab sie aus drei Blickwinkeln fotografiert während ich um sie rum gegangen bin. Ich hab sie für euch in der Reihenfolge gepostet in der ich die Bogenreihe umrundet hab.
Gefällt euch eine Perspektive besser als die anderen? Falls ja lasst es mich doch wissen. Ich habe auf jeden Fall Präferenzen 😉

I liked looking through the remains of this archway a lot. I took pictures from both sides and slightly prefer the vista of the lake through it. The other way around is still very interesting in my opinion, hence I put it also on.
Do you have a preference between these two images and if so which is the one you like better?

Ich habe es sehr genossen durch die Überreste dieses Torbogens zu kucken. Ich hab von beiden Seiten fotografiert und mag den Blick auf den See in klein wenig mehr. Die andere Seite fand ich auch sehr schön, deshalb hab ich das zweite Bild mit reingenommen.
Wie seht ihr das? Gefällt euch eins der beiden besser und falls ja welches?

Leaving the ancient buildings on the end towards the lake they present themselves differently and at least as nice. You might not have the lake shimmering through the walls but the blue sky above and the greenery in front of the ruins makes for another wonderful sight. Well at least in my opinion they do.
I got two pictures in this post showing the backside of what you’ve seen in the last post. I also thought you might be interested in a more panoramic perspective. What do you think? Would you agree it’s also nice from this side?

Wenn man auf der anderen Seite die alten Gemäuer verlässt präsentieren sie sich nochmal ganz anders. Meiner Ansicht nach aber nicht minder schön. Der See mag zwar nicht durch die Ruinen schimmern aber der blaue Himmel und das satte Grün davor machen sich mindestens genauso gut.
In diesem Post hab ich zwei Bilder für euch die einfach die Rückseite zeigen von der Ansicht die ihr im letzten Post schon gesehen habt. Außerdem dachte ich mir vielleicht interessiert euch auch eine Weitwinkelaufnahme von einem Teil der Anlage. Was meint ihr dazu? Würdet ihr mir zustimmen dass es auch von hier aus gesehen faszinierend aussieht?

Wandering through the Grotte di Catullo you often come across surprising sights. Here you got two examples with lake Garda seen through the gaps or doorways of the ancient buildings.

Wenn man sich die Zeit nimmt in Ruhe durch die Grotten des Catull zu laufen entdeckt man immer wieder spannende und überraschende Ausblicke. Hier hab ich zwei Beispiele für euch. Wie der Gardasee durch die Lücken oder Tore der alten Gebäude blitzt. Mir hat das sehr gefallen. Wie geht’s euch damit?

We spent one day visiting Sirmione and its archeological site, Grotte di Catullo. For me it was the second visit and I was again fascinated. I have to admit that I love the ancient Roman and Greek ruins. I could spend hours and days wandering about.
For the second picture I needed a bit of patience and several shots to capture the boat filling the gap. I posted a similar picture a long time ago but didn’t have the luck with the ship passing. I thought you should know the reason why I bother you again with this view 😆

Einen Tag haben wir in Sirmione in den Grotten des Catull verbracht. Ich war das zweite Mal dort und wieder genauso fasziniert wie beim ersten Mal. I muss allerdings zugeben, dass ich ein Faible für antike Ausgrabungsstätten habe. I könnte Stunden und Tage da verbringen.
Für das zweite Bild hab ich ein wenig Geduld und einige Bilder gebraucht bis ich den Dampfer in der Mitte erwischt hab. Vor längerer Zeit hab ich hier ein ähnliches Bild gepostet. Damals hatte ich aber nicht das Glück mit dem Dampfer. Ich finde ihr solltet wissen warum ich euch nochmal mit diesem Blick belästige 😆
