Empowering Girls, One Goal at a Time! ⚽

Sometimes, making a difference begins with simply showing up.

We had the privilege of visiting Am/Pokkanai Maha Vidyalayam as part of SHIKSHA / KALVI, a national movement launched by World Vision Lanka to celebrate 50 years of service in Sri Lanka. 🇱🇰

This visit was extra special as we had the opportunity to support the school’s all-girls football team, a wonderful group of young girls filled with dreams, determination and a passion for the game.

With the generous support of Uppuveli by DSK and football jerseys donated by the Roshan Mahanama Trust, we were able to bring a little happiness, encouragement and confidence to these young athletes.

For me, it’s not just about what we give. It’s about reminding these children that their dreams matter and that they deserve every opportunity to shine.

There is so much more to do, but this is just the beginning.

I visited the Palagala Maha Vidyalaya in Anuradhapura with World Vision Lanka, and simply justI asked them - “What do you want?”

Their answers reminded me how much potential exists in these young minds, and how often opportunity is the missing piece.

From challenges of getting to school, to limited learning opportunities and resources for students who dream of exploring and researching - there is so much we can do.

I truly believe change can start small. One school. One classroom. One student at a time.

This Valentine’s Day I started off my Day meeting this mom and son - Kumari has been writing to me for the past few weeks asking me to help her son, as a mother she is doing her best and she needs our help to keep whatever we can, for this little boy to do his surgery before he is 12 years old he will need Rs.21 million - he is currently 10 years of age

Today with a little bit of funding I got for Kevin I was able to give half of it after getting permission from the contributor to this lady

I personally did not want to take this responsibility as it’s too much. It drains me emotionally. I know you have been THE support in helping these cases that I have brought forward. Please help me help HER

Please help me help Deraine
-

He was diagnosed with this unsympathetic disease in April 2020 and since been treated with Remission induction and consolidation 3 cycles of high dose Cytarabine at Lanka Hospital, Sri Lanka. After treatments, he was released from the hospital in Aug 2020 and was just starting to live his normal life with loved ones, when the cancer decided return and beat him again this month.

Deraine is currently undergoing rescue chemotherapy in the same hospital. Doctors have prescribed a bone marrow transplant to beat the cancer and support him to win his life back.

As one of the most expensive cancers to be treated, the family is trying their best to collect LKR 40 million (surgery cost and hospital accommodation), for Deraine to get a bone marrow transplant done in Singapore urgently. A donor is waiting to undergo the surgery with him to donate bone marrow.

So, dear friends, colleagues, and all of you who are reading this, we kindly ask for your help to overcome the hurdle of this huge medical cost.

On the 4th of June 2020 he wrote to me saying “Currently im in hospital. Ill meet u soon after discharge” but sadly on the 25th of March 2021 he passed away leaving his wife and 2 little kids back
This is a #Latepost I wanted to reach out to say THANK YOU for those who helped me help him with #SriLankaSmiles
