NEW RELEASE ANNOUNCEMENT!!! Different Strokes For Different Folks are proud to present the first ever vinyl reissue of Al Basim’s legendary ‘Revival’ album, originally released via private press in 1979. Preorder now with general release on October 30th.

Including elements of out-there guitar jams, spiritual jazz, kosmiche soaked rock and Middle Eastern ambience, this is truly a record to live with. Head of Label, Oz Adams explains why this record is so special: ‘Every now and again you come across music that feels like you’ve opened a door to a room you’ve never been into before. ‘Revival’ is unique; a kaleidoscopic amalgamation of Arabic, U.S & European
influences. Both reflective and deeply soulful, the songs sound like hymns beamed in from a better world.’

‘Revival’ documents Baghdad-born musician Basim Al-Hashimi’s once in a lifetime trip to the U.S in 1978 where his concoction of Arabic styles with the Western ‘60s and ‘70s rock so beloved of his youth came together to produce a record almost impossible to categorize. Led by his melodic guitar playing, the band move from psychedelic excursions through to meditative ambient sections, jazz inflected grooves and joyful, progressive motifs.
Licensed directly from Basim Al Hashimi, this reissue package includes an interview with the man himself, outlining his journey towards the creation of both his U.S experience and the masterpiece it produced, as well as photos sourced from his personal archive. Available in both black and marbled vinyl.

Big fans of both @williesphillys and @curio.cafebar so we had to swing by for this one 👀

In praise of such a dynamic voice, the sort of voice that on first listen instantly feels familiar across a myriad of household names across decades of funk, delta, gospel, psychedelic - from Bill Withers to Jimi Hendrix - and with an instant, you’re drawn back into the unique gravel of Paul Pena, the sort of range that fits an artist who once opened for Frank Zappa and The Grateful Dead. An immersive cross-genre LP that spirals the great plains with acoustic depth and powerful gospel. Equally as much soul-soothing as much as it is arresting in its rawness.

The album has had reissue duties from our friends and Brighton neighbours @diffstrokesdifffolks and we owe it to Oz and Nick for diligently unearthing such gems - with faithfully renewed album art and incredible sleeve notes written by Oz himself, in a short space of time they now have 4 albums in their stable and it’s inspiring to see through their emerging catalogue.
