When you’re marketing somewhere people can actually visit, your content needs to do more than just tell people you exist.⁠
⁠
People want to be able to picture what it’s actually like to be there.⁠
⁠
What can they do? What will they see? Where can they eat? Where do they park? Is it good for kids? Can they bring the dog? What’s there that they might not even know about yet?⁠
⁠
Sometimes the content that feels really obvious or even a bit boring to you is exactly what someone needs to see before deciding to visit.⁠
⁠
It’s why I’m always thinking about the actual experience when I’m creating content for my clients, rather than just what we need to promote that week.⁠
⁠
Social media can be such a huge part of someone discovering somewhere, getting a feel for it and eventually deciding they want to go.⁠
⁠
I work with Kent tourism and visitor attractions on exactly this, through content creation and social media strategy.⁠
⁠
My retainers are currently full, but I’m booking one-off content shoots and strategy superchargers for Q1 ❤️⁠

One of my favourite pieces of client feedback recently was a visitor seeking them out specifically to tell them they’d visited because of what they’d seen on social 🥹

And this is exactly why I think measuring social media for footfall businesses needs a little more nuance than simply looking at views.

I look at things like:

💬 Comments showing genuine user intent like “I need to go here!”

📋 Visitor surveys mentioning social

📈 Google Analytics referrals from social

👀 Overall awareness and engagement

❤️ And real-world conversations with visitors

You can’t always track every step between someone seeing a Reel or TikTok and actually walking through the doors.

But that doesn’t mean social didn’t influence the decision.

For tourism businesses, that’s the stuff I’m interested in 🗺️
